Marauders is a First-Person Shooter set in the terrifying void of outer space where enemies are everywhere. Players will find themselves fighting in freefall, on the ground, or in multiple space stations. The game is an extraction looter with mechanics familiar to the genre, such as looting, crafting, various armor types, and more.

In addition to fending off their fellow players, Marauders must fight AI, sometimes called NPC, enemies. Sometimes, the AI takes the form of tower defense, such as turrets in space that defend the station from invaders. At other times, players face human-shaped AI that will shoot players on sight. Each AI enemy in Marauders behaves differently and can drop different kinds of loot.

It is vital for Space Pirates to be able to identify the AI enemies, learn how to deal with them, and plan what to do in every hostile encounter.

Brief Overview of General Combat Mechanics in Marauders

Firing with SMG in Marauders FPS game combat
The MP40 is a fantastic submachine gun for close-quarters combat.

Combat in Marauders operates by the same mechanics as other first-person shooters. Expect to see familiar elements such as different armor and calibers.

When a player is shot, he may be relatively unscathed or completely doomed, depending on a few factors: the type of armor the player is wearing, the kind of weapon the enemy is using, and the caliber of ammo with which the weapon is loaded.

Once a fight concludes, players must heal, reload their weapons, loot the fallen enemies, and extract.

Extraction (in other words, evacuating from the area of your raid) can be tricky! Players must exit a space station by the same airlock by which they entered, in order to return to their ship. But that’s not sufficient to escape! Players must pilot their ship to an Escape Gate to escape with their loot. Otherwise, a fleeing pirate can get intercepted by other players.

Gunfights against AI enemies in Marauders and other players can be very different as the AI is less tactical than a real opponent, not to mention under-geared. If you are new to the game, feel free to check out our beginners guide to combat in Marauders.

How To Identify NPC Enemies in Marauders vs. Real Players

Space Pirates should be able to identify the different threats in a space station to decide how to approach specific scenarios.

    Be Aware Of The Map

Knowing the map you are playing will help you identify whether the enemy is human. Example: In the NAVY Outpost, you will never see AI raiders or miners. If you see someone that looks like one of those, it is most likely an under-geared player.

    Watch Their Movements

AI enemies will probably be staring mindlessly, standing still, or having abrupt movements. In contrast, an enemy player will most likely be on the move constantly, moving side to side while shooting at you. This serpentine motion helps players avoid return fire, but it’s a trick the AIs haven’t mastered.

The guns AI uses can be very predictable, especially if you know the map you are playing.

General Tips to Defeat Any AI Enemy in Marauders

    Do Not Underestimate The AI

While the AI seems less dangerous than a real player, a bullet is a bullet, and it can spell your end. The AIs are like prowling hyenas, ready to take down a lion when it is weakened. If you happen to confront a real player and win the fight, the AI may be able to finish you off with a bullet from behind. Always deal with the AI first.

    Always Loot Them

It is rare but possible that AI can carry some valuable loot, such as coins, rifles, or sidearms. Don’t waste your opportunities!

    It Only Takes One Bullet

AI movement is slow and clumsy, which makes it easier for you to get headshots. Also, AI usually wears weak helmets, so save your ammo by killing it with one or two shots to the head.

Different Kinds Of Human-Shaped AI in Marauders

    Raiders

aiming down at the simplest enemy in Marauders: the Raider
Raiders can be highly inaccurate enemies when shooting at Marauders.

The Raiders are a hostile faction in the Marauders game found in other space stations. Raiders are primarily harmless as they carry low-tier gear and are easy to kill.

    How To Identify Raiders

Raiders can get looted to get some valuable items.

Raiders usually wear colorful suits that can be green, red, or white. They also wear white masks. Their meager gear offers very little protection. Sometimes, Raider can use M1 Flak Vests and Leather Caps, which provide insufficient protection to their heads, making them highly vulnerable to headshots.

    Prisoners

    Prisoner AI NPC

The Prisoners are a very hostile civilian faction found in Penal Colony Beta 5. There, they are held captive and forced to perform hard labor to pay for their crimes. Prisoners vary widely in appearance. They may have light armor, heavy armor, guns, or melee weapons.

How To Identify Marauders’ Prisoner Enemies

    identify prisoners NPCs in Marauders
Prisoners with melee weapons will try to rush the player to strike at close range. Be ready with a close-range weapon for defense.

One kind of Prisoner wears an orange prison suit and carries weapons such as the 1911 Stamp, a Sawed-Off Shotgun, and a MAC-10.

Players can spot the other type of prisoner in a Riot Helmet and A M3 Flak Vest with a Truncheon, Baton, or Machete as a melee weapon.

    • Kill these cooperative targets as quickly as possible before another one arrives.
    • Go for headshots.

Prisoners can be more challenging than the previous two types of Marauders NPC enemies, as they are more aggressive and better geared. Try to keep your distance and go for headshots.

    Security Personnel

    marauders security personnel
Security personnel tend to move in groups of two or more.

The Security Personnel is a defense faction in charge of protecting merchant frigates, interceptor frigates, and Iridium Asteroid MIne. This faction tends to be armed with decent weapons, so don’t approach them without good armor in Marauders.

    How To Identify Security Personnel

Identify Security Personnel by their white helmets and blue suits under their armor.

Players can quickly identify Security Personnel by their white helmets and blue clothing. Security Personnel also tends to cluster in a group of two or more. Their relatively high ability to deal damage offers a challenge to Space Pirates.

    • Be careful, as they travel in groups.
    • Don’t forget to heal, as Security Personnel carry powerful weapons in Marauders that can damage you.
    • Keep your distance, as they have high firepower due to their numbers.

Security Personnel combines better training with better gear, so players must be more competent when fighting this faction.

    SAS

    SAS trooper

In-universe,  SAS troopers are descended from the real-world UK” Special Air Service.” SAS Kingdom Alliance Special Forces are highly dangerous as they carry good protection and firepower. Moreover, they behave like a coherent team; they react to friendlies getting attacked. You won’t be able to pick them off one by one.

    How To Identify SAS personnel

There are two types of SAS: the Operatives, which are more numerous, and the SAS Captian, one of the most brutal enemies in Marauders to fight.

    SAS Operative

The SAS Operative is a foot soldier wearing medium armor and various weaponry. These Operatives tend to move in groups and react if one of their friendlies is engaging, so expect to be swarmed once you shoot one.

The SAS Captain looks similar to the SAS Operatives as they also wear a BA Beret, but as opposed to the grunts’ red berets, the one the SAS Captain wears is tan. This kind of AI enemy also carries a Thompson, a wonderfully costly weapon.

    • Kill one and fall back to heal
    • Aim for the head

    • Do not let them flank you

SAS is the most problematic faction to fight in Marauders. Players must be careful when confronting this group,  as they fight as a team and act more intelligently than other AIs.

    Navy Commandos

The Commandos are a faction at war with the SAS, but don’t get your hopes up. The enemy of your enemy is not always your friend!

Commandos are equipped with heavy armor and weapons.

Players can find Commandos occupying Capital Ships. There are two types of Commandos: the foot soldier and the Commando Major. The latter is a high-ranking officer equipped with high-tier weaponry.

    • Be ready to fight other players.
