Marauders is a First-Person Shooter set in the terrifying void of outer space where enemies are everywhere. Players will find themselves fighting in freefall, on the ground, or in multiple space stations. The game is an extraction looter with mechanics familiar to the genre, such as looting, crafting, various armor types, and more.
In addition to fending off their fellow players, Marauders must fight AI, sometimes called NPC, enemies. Sometimes, the AI takes the form of tower defense, such as turrets in space that defend the station from invaders. At other times, players face human-shaped AI that will shoot players on sight. Each AI enemy in Marauders behaves differently and can drop different kinds of loot.
It is vital for Space Pirates to be able to identify the AI enemies, learn how to deal with them, and plan what to do in every hostile encounter.
Brief Overview of General Combat Mechanics in Marauders
Combat in Marauders operates by the same mechanics as other first-person shooters. Expect to see familiar elements such as different armor and calibers.
When a player is shot, he may be relatively unscathed or completely doomed, depending on a few factors: the type of armor the player is wearing, the kind of weapon the enemy is using, and the caliber of ammo with which the weapon is loaded.
Once a fight concludes, players must heal, reload their weapons, loot the fallen enemies, and extract.
Extraction (in other words, evacuating from the area of your raid) can be tricky! Players must exit a space station by the same airlock by which they entered, in order to return to their ship. But that’s not sufficient to escape! Players must pilot their ship to an Escape Gate to escape with their loot. Otherwise, a fleeing pirate can get intercepted by other players.
Gunfights against AI enemies in Marauders and other players can be very different as the AI is less tactical than a real opponent, not to mention under-geared. If you are new to the game, feel free to check out our beginners guide to combat in Marauders.
How To Identify NPC Enemies in Marauders vs. Real Players
Space Pirates should be able to identify the different threats in a space station to decide how to approach specific scenarios.
Be Aware Of The Map
Knowing the map you are playing will help you identify whether the enemy is human. Example: In the NAVY Outpost, you will never see AI raiders or miners. If you see someone that looks like one of those, it is most likely an under-geared player.
Watch Their Movements
AI enemies will probably be staring mindlessly, standing still, or having abrupt movements. In contrast, an enemy player will most likely be on the move constantly, moving side to side while shooting at you. This serpentine motion helps players avoid return fire, but it’s a trick the AIs haven’t mastered.

General Tips to Defeat Any AI Enemy in Marauders
Do Not Underestimate The AI
While the AI seems less dangerous than a real player, a bullet is a bullet, and it can spell your end. The AIs are like prowling hyenas, ready to take down a lion when it is weakened. If you happen to confront a real player and win the fight, the AI may be able to finish you off with a bullet from behind. Always deal with the AI first.
Always Loot Them
It is rare but possible that AI can carry some valuable loot, such as coins, rifles, or sidearms. Don’t waste your opportunities!
It Only Takes One Bullet
AI movement is slow and clumsy, which makes it easier for you to get headshots. Also, AI usually wears weak helmets, so save your ammo by killing it with one or two shots to the head.
