The Payday franchise is undoubtedly one of the most successful co-op multiplayer games ever created, evident in its truly massive, loyal player base that has kept playing for more than a decade since the release of Payday 2. Payday 2 has really given us a rich heist experience, and we can’t wait to see what great features Payday 3 will have in store for us.
The developers of this franchise, Overkill, have earned this success by not only developing entertaining games but also by showing love to their community with constant updates, events, DLCs, and support for their games. Without question, this is the same treatment we would love to have with the upcoming and highly anticipated Payday 3.
Have you spent countless nights on Payday 2 and can’t wait for its sequel? We have, so join us on the hype train and find out everything we know about this upcoming title and what features the community would love to see on our Payday 3 wishlist!
Payday 3 Possible Release Date
After years of waiting, Payday 3 has finally been confirmed and is due to arrive in 2023! While Overkill hasn’t specified an exact release date yet, there have been some rumors circulating the internet that may give us a clearer timeline.
Although these “leaks” online appear accurate, nothing can be verified until we get authentic information straight from the developers themselves. Therefore, all we can do now is patiently wait for official news about this highly anticipated installment of the series.
What About the Leaks?
Overkill has yet to confirm any information regarding the release date other than the year. Still, if we look back a couple of years, there was a significant leak from Nvidia Geforce. Now that revealed the potential release date for several significant titles, one of them being Payday 3. If it can be trusted, you should expect a Payday 3 release date of March 14th, 2023.
What Makes the Payday Franchise so Fun and Successful
Payday 2 is still one of the most played games, especially on platforms like Steam, which has more than 40k players per day based on Steam Charts statistics. Overkill earned this by developing a great game and being active with their community.
Payday 2 continues to maintain its status as one of the premier co-operative, multiplayer games that you can play with friends. There is no shortage of reasons why this timeless classic remains a staple for many gamers today. Before we dive into our Payday 3 features wish list, we’ll quickly go over what makes Payday 2 so amazing and what we hope its sequel can build on.
1. Great Co-op Experience for Your Friends and You
Payday is a game in which players can team up with friends for an unforgettable experience. Playing Payday 2 with friends is best as you can strategize, delegate tasks, and support each other to complete the heists.
2. Guns! Guns! and More Guns!
One of the main features of this game is the countless weapons you can pick. Payday 2 has an impressive armory with tons of guns ranging from melee weapons to pistols, rifles, launchers, and much more.
This varied armory allows players to always have something new to try and work on. Moreover, it keeps players energized by the game. It doesn’t become a stale grind after you reach the top-tier weapon, as in many FPS games.
3. Top Tier Customization Features in Payday 2
Payday 2 has many guns and customization options; you can select from various attachments to completely transform or adapt weapons to your play style.
This customization feature enables Payday 2 players to have even more options beyond the plethora of guns already in the game.
4. Different Playstyles for Everyone!
Payday 2 is built for everyone and all tastes, meaning that gamers can play it in various ways. This game has something for everyone. Players can go totally stealthy and follow specific paths to complete their heist. Or, they can go guns blazing and kill everyone in their way. Payday players can even go full-brute force with a melee build to smash their way through the heist. You can even be a deadly sniper from a distance.
There are a lot of things to try and different ways to play!
5. Skills and Abilities for Days
Payday 2 also offers players a skill and perk system, allowing them to completely adapt their character to their playstyle with different active and passive abilities.
6. Active Developers that Love Their Community
Overkill has made itself an example in the gaming industry, constantly releasing new updates, DLC, events, and all other kinds of content for its community to enjoy and keep the game fresh.
7. High Replayability Value to Keep You Up Countless Nights
With all the new content released, the great variety of weapons, customization options, perks and skills, you will always enjoy this game as your experience is always different depending on how you play.
Not only does Payday 2 offer constant fresh content for its players, but also, the way Overkill has built the game allows you to replay the same heist over and over again in different difficulties to have different outcomes, objectives, and ways to play your missions.
Payday 3 Wishlist – 13 Features We’d Love to See in Overkill’s Upcoming Title
To build upon the great experience Overkill has already provided in their past titles, we’d love to see these exciting additions included in the upcoming title. They would enhance and improve the overall heist experience significantly!
1. Crossplay Support
A game like Payday 3 would highly benefit from crossplay as players from PC, Xbox, and Playstation can play with their friends no matter their console. Currently, Crossplay support in Payday 2 is limited to cross-generation play on consoles only.
As time goes by and the gaming industry keeps growing, more major gaming titles have successfully implemented this. We all would love to see Payday 3 feature crossplay support too!
2. More Ammo Types
While previous Payday titles have a great variety of weapons from different categories, seeing more dynamic ammo mechanics would be amazing.
Expanding the range of calibers and ammunition types will empower players to customize their weapons according to their specific needs. This would go beyond the common set of attachment customizations that are common in the FPS genre these days.
Altering the ammo types would also improve the game’s realism, making it even more fun to play. This is one of our most valued new features in Payday 3 that we hope and expect to see.
3. Better Driving Mechanics Would be a Great New Feature in Payday 3
Payday 2 showered its fans with plenty of remarkable memories and assignments, some involving vehicles. While driving in Payday was a fresh experience, it could be clunky and restrictive at times.
In Payday 3, we hope that the developers heavily explore this mechanic and polish it by giving players more options, such as a third-person perspective, more routes, and other mechanics that will improve the experience. Allowing the heist to really live into the getaway phase and still be exciting, replayable, and fun would be awesome!
4. Mask Customization
There is no doubt that masks are a staple of the Payday franchise, but so far, players can only select their mask and nothing more.
Payday 3 should come with a feature that allows players to fully customize their masks. This could take the form of editing colors, patterns, and shapes. Moreover, it’d be great to be able to add stuff to them and more. Many games have skins; we’d love to see a mechanic whereby you can really customize your masks and showcase your skills with limited edition or unlockable details in Payday 3.
5. An Improved Stealth System
Payday 2 heavily improved on the stealth mechanics of its predecessor. Payday 3, as a “next-gen” title, should feature a more fleshed-out stealth system with a more dynamic and intelligent AI.
Improving these mechanics would be great for players who like completing a heist in a full stealth build, adding more immersion and possibilities.
6. Punchy Sound Design
Payday 2 is an immersive game with tons of great things, but something that would greatly improve the experience in Payday 3 is better sound design.
Lately, more and more developers have been focusing on adding greater immersion through their audio design by creating realistic sounds, such as punchy audio cues for weapons and explosions, as well as more accurate sounds.
Tactical sound cues, such as footsteps and voice lines, would provide players with crucial information about their surroundings and help them strategize in order to gain an edge over their opponents. The ability to distinguish between different kinds of sound effects can also allow for tactical decision-making, such as following a silent approach when necessary or knowing when an alarm has been triggered.
Impeccable sound design would help bring the world of Payday 3 alive and add a sophisticated level of depth to the game’s experience.
7. Even Better Customization for Guns and Builds
Without a doubt, Payday 2 offers its community an impressive armory and gunsmith system that enables players to highly customize their weapons.
An expanded gunsmith system should allow players to share attachments between weapons and adapt them however they wish for their guns. Doing this kind of customization would give players more freedom with their weapons and gear.
Add this to the aforementioned ammo upgrades, and players could significantly improve the customization of their loadouts beyond the best builds in Payday 2.
8. Better Movement
As much as we love Payday, the movement is outdated and limited, and it would be great to see more movement options mixed with dynamic maps to make traversing through the map more fluid. (Yes, we want parkour in Payday 3!)
Beyond improved movement, we would really like to see more stances and the ability to peek around corners in Payday 3. It’d be awesome to even fire blindly around them to lay down covering fire.
9. Updated Animations
Better animations are expected, and we are sure Overkill will work on their animations for Payday 3, but we can’t hold it. A game as immersive as the Payday games would be even better with updated animations and more movement mechanics. One example of this would be adding a prone position to the game.
10. More Dynamic Maps (Night maps with NVGs)
Talking about movement, we would love to see more dynamic maps that allow players to have more interactions with them.
For example, a great addition to the game would be a rope that players can use freely around the map to climb up or down buildings.
11. Featuring More Support Equipment in Payday 3 Would be Great
So far, equipment other than weapons in Payday is minimal, and seeing more gear would be great. Payday 3 could benefit its teamwork gameplay by adding more support gear to improve the current and upcoming gameplay mechanics.
12. Better Enemy AI
As much as Payday is a beloved franchise in the gaming industry, its titles are not known for having the best AI.
Something that Overkill should focus on is making better AI that not only works like zombies rushing at players but also be more dynamic and give the feeling that they are trained forces with an actual plan.
Better enemy AI is essential for a successful launch of Payday 3. Having smarter enemies will make the game more exciting and challenging as players progress. AI-controlled opponents should be capable of learning from the player’s strategy and adapting accordingly, making the heists more unpredictable and keeping players on their toes.
Better enemy AI would also allow for more varied mission objectives that require skillful coordination with teammates in order to outwit the opposition. Improved AI features would certainly add an extra layer of depth to Payday 3 upon its release, making it an even more thrilling experience!
13. Improved VR in Payday 3
Payday 2 VR is just ok. Payday 3 should have improved support for virtual reality (VR) to make the game more immersive and engaging. VR headsets allow players to look around the in-game environment as if they were actually experiencing it, making each mission more thrilling and exciting.
With better VR capabilities, Payday 3 would be perfectly suited for a fully immersive experience of running heists and robbing banks with your friends. Not only that, but VR can also help improve communication between players as they coordinate their strategies via gestures and vocal commands.
Improving the VR support in Payday 3 as a new feature can take this already amazing game franchise to the next level!
