Complete Coverage of the Serpent Moon Event in Hunt: Showdown

Crytek’s Hunt: Showdown is back again with another limited-time event, with many more rewards and stories brought to the table. During this 60-day-long event, players can earn event-exclusive skins, playtest two new guns introduced during this event, and uncover more of the story in Hunt: Showdown. We will quickly run you through everything you need to know about the Serpent Moon Event in Hunt Showdown and what it offers.

What is the Serpent Moon Event in Hunt Showdown About?

The Serpent Moon Event has brought an unusual gathering of snakes into the bayou. If you are familiar with or have played in previous Hunt: Showdown Events, this progression system will be no surprise. While venturing into the map, you will encounter baskets of snakes littered around the different maps. Like the Halloween or Christmas event that Hunt: Showdown has had, these snakes will be the primary way of acquiring event points.

Shooting these snakes will earn you two event points, but interacting with the snake baskets will grant you four points, plus an additional three Snake Tokens. Whenever you obtain Snake Tokens, you can sacrifice them at a Snake Alter, which will always be located around a boss arena. You will be granted two extra points for every Snake Token offered at a Snake Alter.

However, be careful when collecting the snakes from their baskets, as any loud noise such as gunfire or running will cause the snakes to lash out against anyone trying to remove them from their home. If you attempt to gather any snakes while they are startled, they will bite you, causing you to bleed and become poisoned for a few seconds. The poison is especially dangerous as it can attract any nearby Meat Head monsters in Hunt Showdown to your location or prevent you from healing if a fight suddenly breaks out.

    Snake Tokens

Some of these Snake Alters can be hard to find given the different placements for each boss location across the different maps, but if you happen to see one in the distance, that also means you found the boss. If you have any questions about how to defeat the bosses in Hunt Showdown, we’ve got a guide for you. The Serpent Moon Event also has other ways of gaining points besides collecting snakes. All the ways of acquiring Event Points and Snake Tokens are:

    • Sacrificing Snakes at Alters. 1 Snake Token = 2 Event Points
    • Destroy Snake Dens 2 Event Points
    • Collect Snakes from Snake Dens 3 Snake Tokens + 4 Event Points
    • Investigate Event Clues & Rifts 10 Event Points
    • Kill Bosses 8 Snake Tokens + 10 Event Points
    • Loot Hunter Corpse 1 Snake Token + 12 Event Points
    • Extract with at least one Bounty 20 Event Points

Like in previous events, there are ways to increase the number of points you get for a limited time. The cheaper or possibly free option is to play as a Legendary Hunter with a Serpent Moon sigil above their portrait before recruiting them. While playing as one of these few Legendary Hunters, you will gain a 10% increase in all the points you earn from the match, along with a slight increase to your Darksight, allowing you to see snakes and Snake Alters at a slightly longer range.

The Legendary Hunters in Hunt Showdown that have this small bonus are:

    • Hail Mary
    • The Witch Hunter
    • The Night Seer
    • The Prescient
    • Daughter of Decay

Despite the new Legendary Hunter, The Viper is included through the Event Pass; playing as them results in no bonus for an unknown reason.

Change to the Perk System During the Hunt Showdown Serpent’s Moon Event

The more “pay to win” option is to buy a Chary’s Implied Contract, which increases the number of Event Points gained by 50% and gives you an extra 20 m of Darksight. You can purchase different Chary’s Contracts that range from durations starting at two hours, twenty-four hours, three days, to an entire week. Lastly, there have been some slight adjustments to the Perk System during the event. While these adjustments are temporary, they offer additional benefits during the event.

The most notable change is Serpent, which allows you to sacrifice your snakes at a Snake Alter from range. Beastface lowers your chance of being attacked by snakes. Poison Sense has had a temporary but drastic change allowing players to see nearby enemy hunters in Darkside while poisoned up to 50m. The 50m range is the standard, but during the Serpent Moon Event, the range is increased to 150m, making some poison builds potentially more viable.

While this isn’t a standard perk and typically only returns whenever there is an event much like the Serpent Moon. Signee is temporarily back; at the cost of a hefty ten perk points, you give your Hunter an extra 3m to spotting Snake Dens, and Snake Alters with Darksight. Additionally, while having Signee, your Hunter also gains an additional 10% booster to Event Points. If your Hunter has survived long enough to become close to level 50, we can recommend taking this perk; otherwise, we often wouldn’t recommend it.

    Updated Moon Effect

Also, like past events in Hunt Showdown, the Serpent Moon is a new temporary night cycle. The Serpent Moon is visually similar to a standard full moon, but the bright moonlight is replaced with an eerie green glow. It’s a welcome change of scenery from the normal day/night cycle, and we all welcome more supernatural events.

    Serpent Moon Event Pass

Unlike previous incarnations of Hunt: Showdown’s take on the popular Battle Pass trend, this one has formulated toward the current standard. In the past, most Hunt: Showdown events were free, and while Serpent Moon technically is, there is a premium version now. Here is what is included in this Event Pass:

Serpent Moon Event Battle Pass Rewards for Hunt: Showdown Players

    Free Pass

    • Winfield M1873 Swift -Slither
    • 200 Blood Bonds
    • 500 Blood Bonds
    • Legendary Hunter Stage 4

As shown above, sticking to the free pass will give you permanent unlocks for the new guns in Hunt Showdown, a Caldwell Conversion Chain Pistol skin, the Vetterli 71 Karabiner Silencer skin, and two out of the four variants for the new Legendary Hunter. Even if you don’t participate in the Serpent Moon Event, the new Sparks Pistol and Romero 77 Alamo will be added to the Store once the event is over.

It’s also worth noting that if you decide to pay for the Gilded Pass, the number of Blood Bonds earned back through the pass almost equals the amount you spent on your purchase. Since this event lasts for a total of 60 days, rather than a short two weeks like previous Hunt: Showdown events, you will have a lot more time to earn all of the event exclusive rewards and go through the unlockable story.

Speaking of the Serpent Moon’s story, nearly every tier in the Event Pass includes an unlockable audio log, which provides stories behind the items/skins in the event. If you are interested in learning more about the cursed bayou, you can find all of these audio logs in the Story section under the Events window in the main menu.

    Chary’s Hunters

Once you complete the entire Serpent Moon Event Pass, you can enter into the Endless ranking, otherwise known as CHary’s Hunters. While the event lasts, you have the opportunity to climb the ranks against your fellow Hunters, competing for who gathers the most points. If you climb the ranks enough, you have a chance at gaining the following once the event ends:

    • Top 75% 500 Hunt Dollars
    • Top 50% 1000 Hunt Dollars
    • Top 25% 100 Blood Bonds + 2000 Hunt Dollars
    • Top 10% 100 Blood Bonds + 3000 Hunt Dollars
    • Top 1% 200 Blood Bonds + 4000 Hunt Dollars

Note: Whenever you climb into another section, you gain All Previous Rewards. For Example, if you climbed into the top 25%, you would earn 100 Blood Bonds, 2000 Hunt Dollars, plus everything from the previous two tiers.

If you enjoy the competitive challenge, Chary’s Hunters LeaderBoard may be fun, but we are unsure if Event Boosters help increase your ranking. If Chary’s Contracts assist in padding your score on the Leaderboards, it will be challenging to try climbing for the top 1%.

Wrapping Up Our Coverage of the Hunt Showdown Serpent Moon Event

That’s everything planned for the Serpent Moon Event for Hunt: Showdown. Even if you don’t enjoy the Chary’s Hunters ranking, there are still plenty of rewards to unlock and interesting story bites to read. Even if the Gilded Pass doesn’t allow you to earn 100% of your money back, the dozens of bounties you extract will help compensate for the small number of Blood Bonds lost.
