Valorant is Riot Games tactical shooter and has one of the fastest-growing player bases in the world. The game is heading into its third year this June, but if you are a console player wondering if Valorant is cross-platform, then we have some bad news for you.
Unfortunately, Valorant doesn’t offer cross-platform functionality….yet! There is no doubt that the game is doing tremendously well with the PC version. However, the potential to make it the gold standard of FPS games is legit due to the ever-growing mobile market and the latest console players interested in the game. That is something Riot Games wouldn’t want to miss out on.
Riot Games are giving so many hints that they will eventually bring the game to consoles like PlayStation and Xbox. We will discuss everything in detail with you now!
The Leaks!
A data mining Twitter account, @ValorLeaks, discovered traces of code strings for not only “PS4” but also “iOS” and “Android.” If there is a PS version, then there is no doubt that an Xbox version would be in development too!
However, a console version and Valorant being cross-platform are totally different matters. The game could face so many issues, and the PC experience might be compromised if Riot Games fail to land this shot perfectly.
Whalen Rozelle, Riot Games’ Senior Director of Global Esports, revealed in the initial presentation for VALORANT:
“We’re overwhelmed by the initial interest and excitement in VALORANT. We have massive dreams for what this game can be as an esports, and we’re excited to embark on this long esports journey with our players.”
The challenge of bringing Valorant to consoles and mobile is a lot more difficult than it sounds. Still, Riot Games might have already found a solution to this problem!
A Wild Rift for Valorant!
In 2021, Riot Games introduced a mobile version of League of Legends independent of the original game! There is no cross-platform play with the PC players, and it’s a completely independent game that will most likely make its way to consoles too!
There are fundamental differences between how the controls work in Wild Rift. That is something more tailored for the controller and mobile players. A Valorant game for other platforms will follow the same plan.
This will ensure that the existing version isn’t compromised. There will be two versions, and Riot will need to expand their team massively. That’s the price to avoid a subpar mobile experience or PlayStation/Xbox players ruining the game for the original players with aim assist!
Update: Riot Games have officially announced the alpha testing for Valorant Mobile, with the game slated for a late 2022 or early 2023 release date! There are also rumors of a Nintendo Switch version now!
Conclusion
There is no other Valorant version for consolers releasing in the foreseeable future. Still, there is no doubt that we will see Valorant on a console platform one day. Valorant being cross platform will be very unlikely and probably something that Riot Games would never look to execute.
Until Valorant is released on their favorite platforms, the console and mobile players can play Valorant on PC as it’s free to play and can run easily on low-end devices too!
