It has been a few months now that Halo Infinite has been available to play. Still, there is a big question among the players with no concrete answer: Is Halo Infinite cross-platform? The answer to that question is a big yes! Halo Infinite supports cross-play between PC players and the XBOX players in normal games or even when you are playing ranked.
Matt Booty, the Head of Xbox Game Studios, revealed, “We know many of you play across more than just your PC, including on Xbox and mobile. That’s why we’re excited to announce Halo Infinite will support multiplayer cross-play and cross-progression when it releases.”
That means you may play with anyone in the same game who uses the original Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, or a PC. There’s no reason why you and your buddies can’t get together and have some Halo Infinite multiplayer fun. This is the first time that a Halo game supports cross-play between multiple systems.
Can We Turn Off Cross-Play?
There is one complaint from the players circulating the Halo community about how cross-play in Halo Infinite is enabled by default, and it does not appear that you can turn it off. This results in many players complaining about controller players having an advantage while playing ranked games. Honestly, that’s a legit concern.
Luckily, there is a solution to this problem to improve your cross-play experience. When you click on the cross-play option when playing ranked, you’ll get an option to go to the solo/duo queue. You may choose between using a keyboard/mouse or a controller, which will place you in a queue with players from that category.
This by no means is a great fix as this doesn’t take into account the platform but the piece of equipment you are using to play the game. Suppose you want to play with your friends who use a controller with their PC while you play with a keyboard and mouse. You will be unable to queue up with them anymore.
This is a unique approach taken by the developers, and it looks like they will stick with it for the long run as we haven’t heard any news related to the topic.
This functionality is currently only available in Ranked Solo/Duos. The Arena Ranked mode features a dropdown menu, but the only choice is to leave cross-play on right now.
What is cross-progression support?
The term cross-progression means that you can play on both platforms without worrying about your game progress. If you have both, a good PC and Xbox Series X where you want to split your game time, you can! This includes your multiplayer ranking, character, and all of your achievements, as well as your story progress.
Halo Infinite is still a relatively newer game, and changes are often coming by 343 studios to it.
