The game Hunt: Showdown has become one of those games that have built up a die-hard fan base. It is an FPS zombie shooter game based on the wild wild west. It combines the unique aspects of zombies and supernatural creatures into the game that the players need to hunt down in order to complete their missions. Fans of the game have been trying to dig into the Hunt Showdown lore to better understand the backstories of the terrifying monsters and killers featured in this game.

The game is developed by Crytek and is a pretty hardcore game for the average FPS shooter player. Here the Players can actually feel dread and fear of losing everything if they accidentally die during a mission. A character’s death results not only means a player has lost their best character and weapons but also they have lost the time they invested in the game.

One of the unique features of Hunt: Showdown lore is its weird west setting merged with the zombie apocalypse storyline. The story is set in the aftermath of a mysterious viral outbreak in 1895 in Louisiana. Hunt: Showdown Lore has players defending against a malign entity known as the Sculptor and fearsome, inhuman agents. Within this scenario, the game builds a jaw-dropping narrative of seemingly disconnected events and characters. The lore is pretty deep and fascinating. Uncovering the full story can take players some work. This is because it is spread across the entire game in small chunks.

Where to Find More Information on Hunt Showdown’s Lore

There are three main places in Hunt: Showdown where curious players can explore the in-game lore. The main accessible lore site is the store. Every Legendary weapon and hunter skin in the game has an added short description. These give the players insight into Hunt’s world-building and character backgrounds. This source of lore is one of the shallowest hints that later on become more relevant. This is especially true as players progress through the game and spend some time exploring the other two sources. The Book of Monsters and the Book of Weapons provide more clues for us. Both books can be found in the library section at the top right corner of the home screen under the titles Liber de Monstrorvm and Liber de Armamentariis.

Through some research, gamers can speculate that the origin of the story started somewhere around 1895 and 1896 in Louisiana. A more accurate guess would be the mid-1890s based on the lore and books of the weapon in the game.

Some of the Hunt Showdown Lore is Revealed through Screen Tips We’ve Pieced Together

As for the hunted, there are small loading screen tips that say that the banishing feature is sending the bosses back to hell. Coupled with the human features of both the Spider and Butcher bosses in Hunt: Showdown, it doesn’t seem far-fetched that they are hellspawn possessing and twisting some unfortunate sod. This is furthermore detailed by hunter’s journal mentioning that a true hunter needs a “demon”, rather than a simple pray. The game also hints to players that the bosses are the source of whatever affliction has created the Grunts and other AI cast. However, how they escaped from hell is not made specific yet.

Hunters themselves are members of an esteemed hunter’s lodge open only to the most esteemed hunters. Hunt players have speculated on the use of dark sight and hints given on the homepage. It seems a safe bet that this lodge also dabbles in the occult.

The Hunters Have their Own Interesting Mythos

Curious players have also found out and made theories around this saying that the Hunt: Showdown Lore hints that the hunters themselves possess supernatural powers that are most likely for the only reason of sending the Hellspawn back to hell. Hunters can shatter skulls of supernatural beings with just a knife. They can die and be resurrected by other hunters unless their body is fully destroyed.

While dead they can hear the slow breathing which perhaps indicates their supernatural powers. They obviously have the ability dark sight that allows them to track down supernatural beings and execute banishing rituals. They can interact with dead Hellspawns and open portals to hells with their bare hands. Also, these Hunters are for some reason very robust and are capable of taking several bullets to the chest, which a normal human would not be able to do.

On another note, they have extremely high health regeneration capabilities that hint at the fact that they are not normal. They are also immune to corruption meaning, they can not be changed into monsters like normal people can. Poison does not kill them, they are immune to poison. They can travel massive distances without resting.

Final Thoughts on the Dark Tails Told in Hunt: Showdown

While everything described in this could be taken as a simple gameplay mechanic and it is just an internet theory about the Hunt: Showdown Lore but this is the best we got up till now as the game’s original lore is very vague and does not explain that much to the players. But with this much information, we can imagine this would make the game more immersive to the players as they now know that the characters they play are some kind of superhumans that have banishing abilities to fight against the Hellspwans. Lore aside, the game is pretty interesting and gamers can easily put hundreds of hours into the game without even knowing a fraction of the lore.

If you haven’t yet had the chance to play Hunt: Showdown, you should grab a friend and dive in together. As Hunt supports crossplay across consoles, you don’t even have to have the same system!
