Halo Infinite continues to adapt and refine fan-favorite Halo weapons. One of the most iconic weapons recognized by fans and non-fans alike is the Energy Sword. Every integration of the Energy Sword has always had a few tips or tricks that have made each one different, for better or worse. Today we will introduce you to some of these tricks. Our goal is to teach you how to lunge with an energy sword in Halo Infinite like a real pro!
Sliding to Extend the Range of Your Energy Sword Lunge
Halo Infinite has a handful of movement options to traverse the battlefield. Yet, compared to Halo 5, these movements are more consistent and predictable. Sprinting in Halo Infinite makes a notable change to how quickly you cross the battlefield. However, sprinting locks you out of interacting with your weapons in most situations. Sprinting has one direct synergy in this game, and that is with sliding.
Compared to other games, sliding in Halo Infinite has built-in lag. This requires you to take into account exactly when would be the best time to use it. Some of these tricks directly impact the Energy Sword. For instance, being able to slide to extend the range of the energy sword lunge.
One of the most fundamental things to remember about the Energy Sword is that you can only lunge when the reticle targeting an enemy is red. The reticle goes invisible when you sprint. As a result, it locks you out of lunging until you either slide or cancel the sprint. Yet, sliding still allows you to lunge while having a burst of movement speed since it unlocks your reticle.

Using Slide Cancelling Effectively
If you don’t have access to a Grappleshot, you can use slide canceling to catch your opponents by surprise. (We will cover what other special things you can do with a Grappleshot later in this guide.) There are two ways that you can utilize slide canceling. The primary way is to sprint forward, slide and then quickly move backward. This allows you to fake out an opponent or quickly retreat from a bad position. Players familiar with Halo 5’s movement will compare this to using thrusters.
The second form of slide canceling is following up with a jump to launch yourself forward, which quickly covers a small amount of ground. Using a slide cancel into a jump on a ledge can even throw you further, but this requires more practice and precise timing to execute well.
To recount, slide canceling is a very good technique to learn so that you can quickly get yourself out of a sticky situation or so that you can get into lunge range as soon as possible. This works because when you lunge, you force a new animation out of your spartan, thus performing a slide cancel. The Energy Sword’s lunge also propels your spartan at the enemy. This is far faster than sprinting. Utilizing this entire movement chain, you will be flying at your enemies before they can react or fend you off.
This is our most insightful tip on how to lunge with the energy sword in Halo Infinite. Yet, we have a few extra energy sword tips in store for you, so keep on reading!
Extra Tips on How to Lunge like a Pro Player in Halo Infinite
Grappling your opponent can be risky if they have a power weapon such as a Sniper Rifle or a Skewer, which can turn you into an easy kill. If you have a Grappleshot, the best movement combo for how to lunge with the energy sword in Halo Infinite is further enhanced. The Grappleshot allows you to swing around a curve, giving you a ton of speed if done right.
If there isn’t an enemy in sight, you can use a lunge to extend your decaying movement speed for just a moment more so that you can actually hit a target with the Grappleshot, similar to how you would lunge with a slide. However, if you happen to see an opponent, you can always grapple onto them and pull yourself right in for the easiest sword kill. Once you grapple a target, it is practically impossible for them to get away from you without being forced to destroy you in seconds.
It should be important to note that the Repulsor immediately cancels this, as it can counter the sword lunge entirely, forcing you out of chaining movement into kills. If you spot a Spartan with a Repulsor, be ready to use your slide cancel to disengage from the target or try to juke out of their range, forcing them to activate it prematurely.
