One of the many bosses in Halo Infinite’s new open-world campaign is Bassus. This brute chieftain is the third boss you will face throughout the main storyline while exploring Installation 07. We have a few tips and tricks on how to beat Bassus in Halo Infinite that will make this brute’s relentless boss battle seem like a breeze to complete.
Who is the Boss Bassus in Halo Infinite
Bassus is brutal and hard-hitting but has a simple mindset for how he fights. He is armed with a chieftain’s power armor, a Gravity Hammer, and a few plasma grenades. His kit is made to rush you down instantly.
Bassus uses no other ranged weaponry aside from his grenades and will always rush the player to close into melee range. You will almost certainly die if he hits you directly with the Gravity Hammer, especially on legendary. Be careful when maintaining a distance.
Often players are used to brutes and other Spartans needing to blindly rush at you to close the distance. Bassus can sometimes leap toward you and can catch you off guard.
Preparing to Face Bassus
Before entering his arena atop the excavation site, you will fight around the mining pits to disable the giant laser digging into the surface of the Halo Ring. Many weapons can be found during the pre-fight for this boss.
We recommend finding a kinetic precision weapon for once you deplete Bassus’s shields, like a Battle Rifle or Commando Rifle. One of the best energy-based weapons for this fight is the Sentinel Beam. Since Bassus likes to remain up close, the Sentinel Beam will melt right through his overshield. Any extra grenades of any type are always a valuable addition to any situation, but plasma and spike grenades work best for this boss fight.
The Strategy of How to Beat Bassus in Halo Infinite
By this point in the game, you should have several upgrades to Master Chief’s arsenal. The primary equipment we will be using to defeat Basus is the Grappleshot.
After the cutscene is finished, Bassus throws Master Chief to the ground and gives the player a few seconds to react before he begins to charge at you. The Grappleshot is the main tool to reposition away from Bassus for the entire fight.
As the cutscene finishes, run into the room on the left. It has a wide-open area you can utilize to run away from Bassus. After entering the room, in the doorway, there is a small ledge above that you can grapple up onto and stay out of the chieftain’s reach.
This is a somewhat similar strategy that we recommend employing in order to beat the boss Chak Lok elsewhere in the Halo Infinite campaign. Yet, in that fight, you don’t have quite as easy of a time compared to defeating Bassus from your convenient perch.
Take It Easy from Your Perch
From that perch, he has no way of reaching you with his hammer. Instead, he will resort to using his plasma grenades. He has a limited number of grenades he can throw before he runs out. After he runs out, he will slowly walk around and wait for you to return to the ground. Grapple up onto the ledge. From there, begin to shoot or wait until he starts to throw one of his plasma grenades.
Rinse and repeat this process until he runs out of grenades to throw at you. Then, you can continue to gun him down without worry. If you run out of ammo, there are weapon lockers around the base arena. However, you will be chased by Bassus while looking for a new gun. Thankfully due to his limited amount of grenades, staying high on the ledge with the Grappleshot makes beating Bassus in this boss fight an absolute breeze, even on Halo Infinite’s Legendary difficulty.
Conclusion
That was our short guide on how to beat Bassus in Halo Infinite. Hopefully, there aren’t any changes to this fight, or we will have to adjust to more hit-and-run tactics. Make sure not to get stuck, and you’ll be fine. Also, feel free to check out more great Halo Infinite tips for multiplayer. Good hunting, Spartans!
