Which PlayStation Vita Games Are the Best Of All Time?
Welp, let’s not waste a single second and get this party started! Today’s list of the most awesomesauce video games on the PlayStation Vita has us spinnin’ around from all the swooning we’re doin’ over them. Like seriously, the Vita is such an underrated gem of a console, and honestly? Like the only to-dog contender to the Nintendo Switch in terms of mobility and unique games.
If Sony announces the Vita 2 after this, we’re losing our sh–well, you get the idea. Anyway, dialing back to the PlayStation Vita, the games are all so exciting that we’re spoiled for choice here. There are plenty of exciting titles to choose from, and we’re as giddy as a kid in a candy store! Ahh, apologies for our fanboyism; it’s hard to contain the excitement. Alright, enough chatter, let’s get goin’.
10. Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward – The Atmospheric Visual Novel Is Full Of Suspense
Kicking things off, our first pick for the best PlayStation Vita titles is more in-line with top-notch story-driven games. The game in question is Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward and it’s a visual novel. However, unlike traditional ones, where you go through loads of dialogue and endless texts, it’s actually more engaging. Players will love the suspenseful build-up of the story and the unpredictability.
Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward allows players to participate in two different gameplay segments. The visual novel part moves the plot along; however, there are first-person escape room sections as well. Players must scamper throughout the escape room to search every nook and cranny to find the escape room key. It’ll open the path to the next section and back to the visual novel parts, where key decisions influence the story.
Oh yes, Zero Escape: Vitue’s Last Reward is a PlayStation Vita game with a whooping 24 endings. Each one distinct and mind-blowing than the last. Here’s the catch, though, you can’t get all of them or your favorite one in one playthrough. However, to make things easier, there’s a flowchart to track your progress. You will be jumping back and forth between different paths by loading up the game with new-found knowledge.
9. God Eater – The Action Game Delivers Anime-Style Characters, Story, and Brisk Combat
If the previous PlayStation Vita game on was too slow for you, don’t worry this next one will knock your socks off. God Eater is for all those anime enthusiasts and edge-lords who don’t ever wanna leave their houses. All kidding aside, though, God Eater is a ton of fun because it embraces its anime-style roots. The bleak post-apocalyptical tale of God Eater is depressing, to be honest, but that’s part of the charm.
Players fight against all odds, where the monstrosities known as Aragami are on the prowl. Humans aren’t the dominant species on Earth. Enter the protagonist, who’s a young, up-and-coming titular God Eater, basically, a hunter who hunts Aragami. The gameplay requires players to be mindful of their surroundings, as Aragami can spring up from any direction. God Eater is a PlayStation Vita game that’s best with a more aggressive playstyle.
In God Eater, there are loads of character customization options. Weapons known as God Arcs can seamlessly transition between melee, projectile, defensive, and predator forms. Each one comes with its own advantages and drawbacks. There’s a ticking clock in almost every hunt of Aragami, and players must slay the creatures within the allotted time. If you love games that crank up the fun and stress, check out games like Overcooked!
8. Metal Gear Solid HD Collection – The Definitive Versions of the Premier Stealth Games Are Perfection
Alright, so this one’s kind of cheating cause it’s more than one game, but you know what? We don’t care! The games are so darn great, that we can look the other way. Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is excellent value for money when it comes to games on the PlayStation Vita. Undoubtedly there are other fantastic stealth games, but let’s not pretend Metal Gear Solid franchise isn’t the most popular one.
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection has Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Three games in one collection is a bargain in our book. You’ll take on the role of Big Boss in Snake Eater and Peace Walker, whereas Raiden and Solid Snake return in Sons Of Liberty. Anyway, about the gameplay itself, revolves around stealth tactics.
Players are encouraged to make use of the environment, blend in, and hide, then strike when the coast’s clear. Players can silently take down enemies with tranquilizers or choking them. To enhance immersion of the stealth element, players can drag away subdued enemies to hiding spots for maintaining cover. The plot is absurdly cinematic, best understood by playing the games in Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on your PlayStation Vita.
7. Toukiden 2 – The Perfect Alternative to Monster Hunter Games on the PlayStation Vita
So, a little perspective is in order here; we’re big fans of the Monster Hunter series. It was a devastating blow that Nintendo clamped down Capcom for exclusivity on their handheld systems for the series. Meaning the PlayStation Vita was left high and dry without games from Monster Hunter, that’s when Toukiden 2 enters the chat. The game is everything you hope for, and so much more.
Toukiden 2 took elements from it’s prequel and inspiration from Monster Hunter, then dialed up the fun factor over 9000! Toukiden 2 has more of a fantasy vibe, that’s similar to a lot of excellent Medieval-themed games. The gameplay has Slayers who go around the open-world map, fighting Oni, demons of all shapes and sizes. Depending on the level of the demon and its challenge, players are rewarded with unique drops.
There’s crafting and heavy emphasis on exploration in Toukiden 2. The combat is super fun to jump into, and the freedom to adjust weapons and skills to your preferences is a nice touch as well. A really nifty feature in the game is the Demon’s Hand, which players can use as a grappling hook or a battering ram, depending on the demon’s size. If you can play just one game on the PlayStation Vita, then we strongly recommend Toukiden 2.
6. Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 – The Colorful Fighting Game Is Freaking Awesome
To cap off our games list for the PlayStation Vita, we’re adding in the Marvel magic with Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. This fighting game was a long time coming. The massive success of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 was the catalyst to the series’ meteoric rise within the upper echelon of Sega Dreamcast games, among other gaming systems. To clear the high bar, Capcom pulled out all the stops.
Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is the definitive version of the fighting game. It’s got the complete roster from both Marvel and Capcom sides, and there are returning favorites, plus new ones. The art style and aesthetic is a tasteful homage to comic book and manga roots. The colors are gorgeous and vibrant, and you’ll feel mesermized by them. The animations and attacks are a delight to see in action.
Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 plays extremely well on the PlayStation Vita as one of the best fighting games ever. Players can select three characters characters from the game’s huge selection, in dream pairings of their choice. The game’s pacing is super quick, with combos and tagging in and out to create devastating attack loops. Oh, and you’ve got Deadpool in the game, need we say more?
5. Uncharted: Golden Abyss – Sony’s Hit Platformer Game Feels Right At Home On the PlayStation Vita
To jumpstart the upper half of the top-tier PlayStation Vita games list, we’re going with a PlayStation heavy hitter. Uncharted: Golden Abyss was a pleasant surprise when it released and impressed the heck out of us. The game’s canon, but standalone from the excellent mainline Uncharted games, which is just perfect. Fan-favorite adventuring hero Nathan Drake and his partner Scully mark an impressive outing.
Uncharted: Golden Abyss is a showcase of the visual prowess and presentation of the handheld console. The game has all of the trademark Uncharted charm and gameplay aspects. From breathtaking scenic environments, pulse-pounding platforming, and intense combat encounters, Uncharted: Golden Abyss is a masterful game. You’ll get lost in its immersive story, and the attention to detail.
Uncharted: Golden Abyss brilliantly incorporates aspects of the PlayStation Vita to bring players an unforgettable game. The PlayStation Vita’s touch-screen and motion sensor feel intuitive and not diorienting, making the gameplay experience smooth. Uncharted: Golden Abyss is a must-play game for fans of the franchise, it only serves to add more backstory and richness to Nathan Drake’s story.
4. Soul Sacrifice Delta – One of the Greatest JRPGS of All Time
For this next entry on our list of the coolest PlayStation Vita games, we have an absolute gem. Soul Sacrifice Delta holds the distinction of being the most unique JRPG on Sony’s handheld system. As a connoisseur of Japanese roleplaying games, we know a thing or two about the genre. Soul Sacrifice Delta can easily hold its own against the heavy hitter PS3 JRPGS, because of its originality and fun gameplay.
As the name implies, Soul Sacrifice Delta involves the protagonist’s sacrificing his own body parts or items to for launching devastating attacks. Here’s where the twist kicks in, players can’t restore the player character’s body every time. Even the items are limited, so there’s a huge layer of strategy involved in this unique PlayStation Vita game. Players can even heal their enemies to save them or sacrifice them for greater power.
The story of Soul Sacrifice Delta is nothing to write home about. However, with such a unique strategic element of the gameplay, you’ll be more focused on casting huge map encompassing spells rather than missing a few plot details. Take it from us, you can’t go wrong playing Soul Sacrifice Delta as its one of the premier Japanes roleplaying games that you can play on the PlayStation Vita.
3. Persona 4 Golden – The Expansion is an Improvement on Perfection
Gearing up for the finish line on the list of epic PlayStation Vita games, we have Persona 4 Golden. Surprise, surprise it’s another JRPG? Kind of telling that its the unique Japanese roleplaying games that gave Vita its critical acclaim. Anyway, Persona 4 Golden is one the more mature titles on our list, because the themes aren’t exactly kid-friendly. Let’s face it, the game’s about uncovering the mystery of disturbing murders.
Like any Persona game, the gameplay divide is between two segments. There’s the real life simulator portion where the protagonist goes around his daily routine, talks to people, maybe even go on a date, like in the best dating simulator games. Then there’s the action-heavy and much more interesting segment within the TV world. Here’s where the cool stuff happens in this PlayStation Vita game, like summoning Personas to battle.
There are thematic dungeons within the TV world, each one having its exclusive monsters and challenges to overcome. Players will need to manage their time well, and work on their traits to unlock different conversation options during dialogue moments. There are plenty of endings, ranging from 2 good ones, 4 bad ones which means you can screw up a lot, and the golden one, but you gotta grind for it.
2. Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time – Our Runner-up Choice for the Best PlayStation Vita Game Needs A Comeback
Ah, dang it, where has the fun era gone? Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time is one the greatest games from the PlayStation Vita era. Since Sony’s been on a remake trend lately, we can certainly hope they appease the fanbase, us included, and do right by Sly Cooper. Anyway, in Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, players take on the role of the crafty and smooth-talking anthropomorphic Racoon, Sly who happens to be a master thief.
The gameplay combines a unique blend of platforming and stealth genres, creating one of the most fun games on the PlayStation Vita. Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time has a time-travel plot of all things. Player must jump back in time and help Sly’s ancestors, through navigating diverse terrains and freely explore their surrounding.
Players will need to time the button pressing to ensure Sly doesn’t get caught or spotted. The endearing art style and colorful vibes of the game remind us of adventure games like Stray, where play as an animal hero. Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time left such an impression on us, that we can’t help but gush over it as an outstanding PlayStation Vita game. So, what’re ya watin for? Go ahead and try it!
1. Gravity Rush – This Gem Reigns Supreme As The Best PlayStation Vita Game Of All Time
The PlayStation Vita is a haven for Japanese indie games. It’s shame that Sony’s present approach is neglecting this aspect, in an otherwise fantastic PlayStation 4 PlayStation 5 era. Anyway, our top pick is a game that’s near and dear to our hearts, Gravity Rush. As the name suggest, players are in for an adrenaline rush that’ll entertain like no other, with flight and mid-air acrobatics.
The lead protagonist of Gravity Rush, Kat, aside from being an absolute favorite of ours, is a likable heroine. Players can traverse vertical surfaces thanks to Kat’s ability to alter the effects of gravity around herself. This creates a super fun dynamic and when the high chase sequences and combat segments occur, it’s an absolute delight. The movement is super fun and fluid, with eye-catching visuals.
Gravity Rush is one of the most enjoyable games ever on the PlayStation Vita. This game perfectly exemplifies how the PlayStation Vita isn’t a gimmick but a proper console with spectacular games. The thrill of using Kat’s gravity powers to fly through the gorgeous open-world map is like no other. Gravity Rush is super awesome, plain and simple.
