Gunfire Reborn is a beautiful blend of gameplay mechanics akin to Risk of Rain 2 with the introduction of RPG-style elements and explosive gunfights. Among the diverse roster of characters, Ao Bai is the second playable hero that will be unlocked and made available permanently upon reaching level 25. Ao Bai is a master of firearms and explosions in Gunfire Reborn. In fact, his dual-wielding skills allow him to fire weapons simultaneously and drastically skyrocket the power of his explosives.
If you just so happen to be the type of person who loves unleashing a barrage of bullets by wielding akimbo miniguns or Dual-Wielding rocket launchers to bombard your enemies with devastating explosions, Ao Bai is the hero for you. Today we will show you our best build and overall guide to playing Ao Bai in Gunfire Reborn.
Ao Bai Summary
Ao Bai’s playstyle mainly focuses on Dual Wielding two weapons instead of swapping between them like other Gunfire Reborn characters. In doing so, he increases the damage and radius of his explosions and buffs himself to be the tankiest character in Gunfire Reborn. Ao Bai sports the highest base HP from the full character roster allowing him to face-tank a lot of damage while still remaining a powerful offensive force in the thick of the fight.
The ability to Dual Wield allows Ao Bai to fire both his primary and secondary weapons simultaneously, allowing for highly consistent fire and, under certain circumstances, devastating burst damage. Although it is very powerful, being able to Dual Wield comes with some harsh downsides.
Firstly, some weapons have alternate fire abilities and cannot be activated until the Dual-Wielding ends. Secondly, Ao Bai cannot Dual Wield melee weapons, the Talisman, or bows, which is a slight drawback, mainly just unfortunate since it would be incredibly fun to slash through hordes of enemies with two swords pertaining to different elements.
Due to the constant stream of bullets Ao Bai can unleash in Gunfire Rebron, we found that stacking Lucky Shot drastically benefits him more than any other character. For those newer to the game, we will briefly explain Lucky Shot and what it does.
How Lucky Shot Works in Gunfire Reborn
Lucky Shot is a random chance to multiply weapon damage by a certain amount based on your current Lucky Shot Chance. Lucky Shot is similar to stacking critical chances in other games. Still, like Warframe, stacking over 100% Lucky Shot grants guaranteed bonus damage and a chance of rolling from a higher multiplier.
Lucky Shot doesn’t benefit from all damage in Gunfire Reborn. Skills, elemental effects, and certain special damage types caused by Ascensions, Occult Scrolls, and Inscriptions can’t be boosted by Lucky Shot. However, this rule has some exceptions, like Ao Bai’s Lucky Ammo or Unleashed Potential, which we will cover later in the guide.
Gaining 100% Lucky Shot Chance will guarantee the next hit will result in double damage, and the damage number will be colored orange in contrast to critical hits being yellow. Increasing your Lucky Shot Chance increases this multiplier from 2x, which is orange, 3x purple, and 4x red.
Lucky Shot Chance | Regular Damage Chance | 2x Lucky Shot Chance | 3x Lucky Shot Chance | 4x Lucky Shot Chance |
0% | 100% | |||
50% | 50% | 50% | ||
100% | 100% | |||
150% | 50% | 50% | ||
200% | 100% | |||
250% | 50% | 50% | ||
300% | 100% |
Lucky Shot Chance can go beyond 4x by going past 300%, but the damage text will remain red regardless.
We wanted to showcase how Lucky Shot works because Ao Bai’s gameplay functions around high attack speed, wielding multiple weapons, and burning buckets of ammo. While he can use elemental weapons, many non-elemental weapons or Occult Scrolls benefit from additional Lucky Shot Chance. We believe that stacking Lucky Shot Chance will increase Ao Bai’s damage rather than trying to be an Elementalist like Crown Prince.

How Ao Bai’s Abilities Work In Gunfire Reborn
Dual-Wield
Dual Wield is Ao Bai’s Primary Skill. Using the Dual-Wield ability causes Ao Bai to draw his unequipped weapon to display it next to his currently equipped firearm. The primary fire button will fire the gun in your right hand, and the alt-fire button will fire the weapon in your left hand. Using the reload button causes both weapons to be reloaded simultaneously. Otherwise, they will reload separately if one gun runs out of ammunition first.
Unlike other primary skills, Dual Wield doesn’t deal any skill damage, as it relies on weapon damage instead of skill damage multipliers. While Dual Wield is active, you cannot utilize any weapons that support an alternate firing mode, limiting the movesets of certain weapons. For example, the Deafening Mortar’s alt-fire, which allows you to lob three massive projectiles over a long ark, is disabled, limiting you to the weapons close range primary fire.
We briefly mentioned that not all Gunfire Reborn weapons can be used while Dual Wielding. These weapons include:
- Fire Tower
- Flowing Light
- Poisonous Ghost
- Foundry
- Talisman
- Strike Wing
- Golden Bow
While all of these weapons are powerful in their own right, they don’t synergize well for many Ao Bai builds in Gunfire Reborn, and we recommend recycling them.
Explosive Grenade
Explosive Grenade is Aoi Bai’s Secondary Skill. Using it tosses a grenade that bounces off surfaces and walls, detonating after a short time. If the grenade directly impacts an enemy, it explodes immediately and staggers enemies within its area of effect. Spamming Explosive Grenade in rapid succession won’t stunlock enemies from the stagger effect.
Ao Bai Strengths in Gunfire Reborn
Ao Bai’s strengths depend on how powerful your weapons are since Dual Wield doesn’t scale with skill multipliers. Instead, this skill enhances your guns, allowing you to wield both weapons, but these combinations can be wonderful or terrible depending on your run.
Dual Wielding two sniper rifles like the Piercing Flame or Goshawk won’t have the best synergy with Ao Bai’s talents in Gunfire Reborn. Weapons with huge magazines or high fire rates like the Big Hippo or the Cavalry are far more effective at mag dumping hundreds of rounds per minute into your foes.
However, leaning more into the explosive talent trees instead of focusing on the raw fire rate can also result in some devastating damage. Dual Wielding Shriekers or Tiger Cannons opts Ao Bai into a heavy burst playstyle instead of a sustained fire build. We recommend trying out both sides while stacking health and damage reduction through Ao Bai’s defensive talent tree.
Tips & Tricks with Ao Bai In Gunfire Reborn
For our tips and tricks for Ao Bai, we want to focus on the weapons you acquire rather than the skills on their own. Since Ao Bai is designed to grow in strength with the RPG stats his weapons obtain throughout the run far more than any other hero in Gunfire Reborn, our tip is to learn the inscriptions and stats of the weapons.
The more you play Gunfire Reborn, you will learn about the different Inscriptions and Gemini Inscriptions. There are normal, rare, and exclusive Inscriptions that each weapon can have the further you go into the run. Normal and rare Inscriptions modify the weapon’s core stats, namely damage, rate of fire, magazine size, critical damage, reload time, accuracy, and lucky shot chance.
How Inscriptions Work
Exclusive Inscriptions are more powerful versions of normal or rare Inscriptions or apply new powerful special effects. Exclusive Inscriptions require the Exclusive Inscription talent to appear on weapons naturally, with the amount a gun can have being limited to the talent’s level, which is three.
Weapon-specific exclusive Inscriptions are limited to their specific weapon type, such as Snipers or Rifles. All weapons except the Foundry and the Porcupine have at least one exclusive inscription. These Weapon Specific Exclusive Inscriptions may negate weaknesses, add new effects or modify their primary or alt-fire capabilities.
Gemini Inscriptions Only activate if both equipped weapons have the same Gemini Inscription; otherwise, the inscription has no effect. Weapons upgraded to +5 or higher have a chance to contain a Gemini Inscription. Gemini Inscriptions require a talent to appear like Exclusive Inscriptions. The Craftsman can etch them into your weapons or reroll them if you have the Legendary Craftsman talent.
Learning about Inscriptions and how they affect your weapons is crucial to increasing your power with any character in Gunfire Reborn, especially Ao Bai.

Ao Bai’s Best Talents in Gunfire Reborn
Every character in Gunfire Reborn has three different talent trees that focus on enhancing their guns and abilities or granting extra utility. Ao Bai’s talent trees enhance his weapon damage, defenses, and destructive power. While there are viable builds for focusing entirely on one talent tree over others, focusing primarily on the Gunfire and Defensive trees gives Ao Bai the best results.
Unleashed Potential
While Dual Wielding, gain +3% weapon DMG and 1+ lucky shot chance every 0.5 seconds with continuous firing stacking up to 20 times. However, you lose 15% weapon DMG and 5% Luck Shot Chance every 0.5 seconds when not firing until all bonuses are lost.
This talent synergizes incredibly well with several other talents in Ao Bai’s Gunfire section. Adding extra damage and Lucky Shot Chance just for holding down the triggers on both of your weapons while Dual Wielding is essentially giving Ao Bai free damage. Several Occult Scrolls also assist in ammo replenishment or give you the ability to fire indefinitely.
Sustained Fire
After killing an enemy or destroying an item, weapon DMG and Explosion DMG are increased by 50%, 75% up to 100% for six seconds at talent levels 1 and 2, but increased to 20 seconds at level 3.
This talent also gives Ao Bai endless amounts of free damage in Gunfire Reborn. This buff activates anytime any kill any enemy, and not limiting it to only elites or special enemies like other games would. Plus, destroying the environment happens accidentally during gunfights, especially since Ao Bai can increase the radius of his explosions. Doubling your weapon damage after killing one enemy at level three makes this talent a must-have on all Ao Bai builds.
Battle Tested
Battle Tested adds additional duration to Dual Wielding, scaling from +50%, +75%, to +100%. At talent level three while Dual Wielding, every 20 ammo consumed increases the duration by two seconds.
This talent rewards Ao Bai for continuing the constant spray of fire playstyle we have come to know and love. Taking this and maxing it to level three gives you the possibility of permanently dual-wielding your guns. There are ways to gain bullets back on miss through Inscriptions or other ammo replenishment through additional talents that allow you to fire your weapons forever.
Adrenal Rush
After killing an enemy or destroying an item, gain -20%, -30%, to -40% DMG taken and +1%, 1.5% to 2% HP per second for six seconds at talent levels one and two, up to 20 seconds at level three.
Taking this talent along with Sustained Fire grants your weapon damage and damage reduction with regeneration for cutting down your foes. This talent is only lacking when fighting bosses since you need to continuously kill enemies to gain damage reduction. Still, taking up to 40% less damage on any difficulty is a fantastic benefit and reinforces Ao Bai’s frontline playstyle.
Alternate Talents for Ao Bai In Gunfire Reborn
We suggest taking Golden Comeback, Close Call, Explosion Enhancement, and Lucky Ammo for other talent recommendations. Golden comeback allows you to negate and heal lethal hits while Dual Wielding. Close Call grants you immunity to normal damage whenever your HP is dropped by at least 25%.
Explosion Enhancement increases the AOE and damage of your explosives and grenades. Lastly, Lucky Ammo gives you additional Lucky Shot Chance while Dual Wielding. All of these talents aren’t as necessary to grab in comparison to the talents we mentioned previously. Yet, these are still incredibly powerful and worth trying to max out.
The Best Gunfire Reborn Ao Bai Build
The Gunfire and Defensive talent trees offer a similar reward for using Dual Wield in every engagement, and the Detonation tree focuses more on explosions and your grenades.
For a standard Gunfire Reborn Ao Bai build, we recommend sticking to a high fire rate weapon or something with a large magazine. Finding a gun that compliments maintaining a constant stream of bullets will synergize incredibly well with his weapon enhancement and defensive trees.
However, we recommend taking all the Detonation talents if you want an explosion-focused build. Be warned, many talents in this tree focus on enhancing not only your explosions but your grenades as well. The Detonation tree also doesn’t focus on Dual Wielding at all, even if we still think you should be using akimbo rocket launchers.
Weapon Builds for Ao Bai In Gunfire Reborn
If you want to use a few weapons that complement our recommended standard Ao Bai Build, we recommend sticking to firearms with a naturally high fire rate. Use the Cavalry, Big Hippo, Demonlore, or Thunderclap/ Laser gloves. These weapons support a high fire rate and have a tremendous natural magazine size.
All shotguns work great if you are looking for an incredibly close-range build. However, we recommend the Illusion over all other shotguns since it is fully automatic and works exceptionally well with Ao Bai’s Sustained Fire talent.
If you want to use an explosion build, we recommend using any Launcher weapon, mainly the Deafening Mortar, Shrieker, or Tiger Cannon. The Bone Dragon is great if you need some crowd control, or the Justice if you want to mix some elemental damage into your gameplay.
Best Occult Scrolls for Ao Bai
There are a lot of Occult Scrolls in Gunfire Reborn. They help influence your build by adding more defensive or offensive attributes to your character or weapons. To round up our Gunfire Reborn Ao Bai build, we recommend the following Occult Scrolls:
Damage Scrolls
- Brutal Gloves: +35% Weapon/Skill DMG to non Crit-Hits.
- Perfect Sixth: Every sixth shot gains +80% DMG (Count is reset when reloading).
- Merciless Combo: +15% weapon DMG for two seconds whenever hitting the enemy (Can be stacked up to 50 times.)
Ammo Scrolls
- Improved Clip: Whenever an ammo pack is picked up, it directly refills the magazine instead of reserve ammo and increases your movement speed by 25% until the next reload.
- Ammo Belt: Ammo Capacity gets doubled.
- Bullet Bank: All picked-up ammo will automatically convert to the currently equipped weapons type.
- Against the Flow: Recover 15% ammo to the magazine every second for 4 seconds after dealing DMG to an enemy. When the effect ends, instead, lose one random type of ammo from reserves every second.
- Deft Hands: Shooting won’t consume any ammo for the next two seconds after killing an enemy or destroying an item.
- Advanced Depot: -15% weapon DMG, but use reserve ammo first rather than magazine when shooting.
Other Types of Scrolls
- Bullet Light: Each shot will consume one additional spare ammo and gives +25% Luck Shot Chance. Recover consumed spare ammo when triggering a Lucky Shot.
- Resilient Life: After taking damage, restore 3% HP per second for five seconds.
- Flesh and Bones: Convert Shield/ Armor to HP and +4% Max Hp/s.
- Bloody Ammo: Automatic weapons can continue to fire with an empty magazine if the fire button is held, but each extra shot deals DMG to yourself. (1% of current total HP)
- Coin Shot: 30% Lucky Shot Chance by consuming two copper when you land a shot. Copper spent will be refunded if you successfully trigger a Lucky Shot.
