Marauders is a space extraction looter shooter set in a gritty dieselpunk universe where players must fight over the scraps of a never-ending war. In Marauders, you must fight tooth and nail to scrounge any weapons or gear you may find while trying to make a name for yourself. Once you’ve gotten enough experience and you know the maps like the back of your hand, you are given the opportunity to Prestige once you hit level 40.
In this short guide, we will go over the benefits and drawbacks from Prestiging in Marauders. At the time of writing this guide, Marauders is still in early access, and a lot of content is still subject to change. With that being said, let’s begin our breakdown.
How Leveling in Marauders Works
The primary method of leveling in Marauders is completing Daily Contracts and quests from the Zero to Hero questline. While completing objectives from either Daily Contracts or the Zero to Hero quests aren’t mandatory, they are the best way to gain XP. As of Marauders’ early access, the max Level you can obtain is around 80, but the Level currently needed to Prestige is 40.
Aside from completing assignments, you also gain a small amount of XP from taking out enemies. Yet, you gain a larger amount for eliminating high-ranking NPC enemies in Marauders or other players. You’ll also get a double XP bonus if you successfully extract from a Raid. Unfortunately, there is a limit to how many contracts you can complete a day, which makes any other source of XP gain marginally small in comparison.
How to get Prestige Points in Marauders
When you reach level 40 in Marauders, you are given the option to Prestige your character. Prestige Points can be used to purchase the following:
- Extra Inventory Space
- Prestige Cosmetics
- Extra Ship Slots
Unlocking anything with Prestige Points will take an extremely long time since every reward requires more and more Prestige Points than the last. For example, expanding your inventory stash by two rows requires one Prestige Point.
Afterward, the next inventory expansion requires two, then three, and four to fully upgrade your stash. Unlocking all the inventory slots would take Prestiging in Marauders nine times. Obtaining all the ship slots takes twice as long.
While expanding your inventory so far can help you loot and craft more of Marauders best weapons, it is still a lot of work to obtain something relatively low in priority.
What are the Downsides to Prestiging in Marauders?
Unfortunately, there are quite a few downsides to Prestiging unless you enjoy that type of grind. When you Prestige, you will receive one Prestige Token, but the following will occur:
- Cash will be wiped and set to 20,000
- Inventory and ships will be wiped
- Crafting unlocks will be wiped
- XP and Level will be reset to zero
- Skill points will be wiped
- Zero to Hero campaign progress is wiped.
The Zero to Hero quest line currently has 40 quests to complete as of the early access and takes a monumental amount of time to complete. We recommend deciding if you want more inventory space, better cosmetics, or more ships in exchange for losing your Zero to Hero progression. If you were to ask us, we recommend Prestiging only if you have finished Zero to Hero or want to grind Marauders.
