Skyrim is one of the best RPG games of all time, and we are still amazed to this day at how much content there is in its vast world. The game is almost twelve years old, and some of the mechanics and the way they have been implemented are outdated by today’s standards. For example, the game has a sprint mechanic, yet many players are left wondering how to sprint in Skyrim.
The way sprinting was implemented might not be intuitive for you; it wasn’t for us. With a few tweaks to your keybinds, you can make it more suitable for you, and we will show you how.
So, How Do I Sprint in Skyrim?
If you have played other Bethesda-published games like Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, you will know that these games have no sprint option. Your speed is determined by holding the left stick forward or pressing the W key.
In Skyrim, however, you can use sprint to get away from enemies, dodge attacks, or travel faster around the map. Sprinting by default is on LB/L1 on controller, and Alt on PC. For PC players, this may be inconvenient, as a vast majority of games have “Shift” as the sprint key, so you may want to rebind your keys if “Shift” works better for you.

Stamina Limits How Much You Can Sprint in Skyrim
Keep in mind that sprinting will drain your stamina, and it is not a good idea to sprint into battle, as approaching a battle with no stamina is not advisable. Without stamina, you are like a sitting duck; you cannot perform any powerful attacks, and repositioning will be difficult unless you have some stamina potions.
You Cannot Perform Other Actions While Sprinting
The reason we said earlier that the sprint mechanic was not intuitive is because of the default key bind on PC, and also because you cannot perform other actions while sprinting, such as jumping and swapping weapons, making it very clunky at times.
Final Thoughts
Despite the clunkiness of this game sometimes, we have a blast every time we revisit it, and even if you are new to this game, you will get the hang of it in no time as it is intuitive and pretty much holds your hand throughout. Hopefully, now you’ve mastered how to sprint in Skyrim and have even improved your keybindings to make it easier.
Not to say the game cannot be challenging; legendary difficulty is nothing to scoff at and will give even experienced players a run for their money.
