Vampires are a great addition to the Elder Scrolls games, with interesting lore and history. Roleplaying as a vampire can be really fun and interesting, especially with how well the Dawnguard DLC is written.
However, sometimes you may get bored of it or find out that the gameplay is not fit for you, and now you want to cure yourself, or perhaps it is a part of your character’s journey and they go through a full transformation to find a cure realizing what they’ve done.
Either way, these are the best ways to cure vampirism in Skyrim to stop being a vampire. After reading this quick quide, you’ll find your character back to normal in no time!
What Are The Ways Of Curing Vampirism In Skyrim
Before we dive into the cure, it’s important to very briefly explain how you became a vampire, as this is what we’re trying to cure in Skyrim.
How You Became a Vampire is Important
Before you transform into a full-fledged vampire or vampire lord, you contract a disease called Sanguine Vampirism. (Note that if you choose to become a Vampire through Dawnguard by Serana or Harkon you skip this step entirely.)
Additionally, vampires you come across have a chance to infect you by using their drain life spell on you. You can cure yourself immediately by using a shrine, or a potion of cure disease, and skip the whole hassle of becoming a vampire and then getting cured of the vampirism.
You Must Embark on a Quest to Cure being a Vampire
If you are a fully-fledged Vampire, there is a quest line that will let you be cured of your vampirism in Skyrim. You need to talk to any bartender about rumors going on. They will mention a rumor about a guy named Falion in Morthal.
Falion can perform a ritual for one filled black soul gem that reverses your vampirism. Unfortunately, The Black Star does not work for this, yet Falion will sell a black soul gem to you if you do not possess one. Follow the quest line and you should be cured of being a vampire in no time.
Lycanthropy is Another Route to Curing Your Vampirism
You can cure your Vampirism by becoming a Werewolf in Skyrim. The easiest and most common way is to just play the Companions quest line. You can also become a Werewolf by wearing the Cursed Ring of Hircine during the quest Met By Moonlight, but this interaction is bugged and we do not recommend it as you are technically not a Werewolf and it is only temporary.
Lycanthropy also makes you immune to diseases, which means that you will not be infected by Sanguine Vampirism. This way you can prevent becoming a vampire in the first place.
Console Commands
If you so choose you can use console commands to rid yourself of Vampirism. The command for it is setstage 000EAFD5 10.
Changing your sex and race with the command Showracemenu will cure you of being a vampire as well.
Final Thoughts on Curing Yourself of Vampirism (Being a Vampire) in Skyrim
Skyrim’s portrayal of vampirism is commendable. While improvements such as providing multiple ways of getting cured could increase its appeal, we acknowledge that such discrepancies may seem trivial.
The Dawnguard DLC is amazing and is a big difference compared to regular Skyrim, especially with Vampire Lords having their own whole perk tree that changes the gameplay completely. There is something about playing in the shadows, but being powerful when necessary that we really enjoy.
