Dark and Darker is a hardcore extraction shooter where death is as common as looting. You’ll be dealing with lots of monsters, players, and other horrors down in the depths of the dungeon, which can kill your character at some point. Thankfully, if you’re playing with a team, your death might not be the end; however, there’s a hefty trade-off for bringing someone back from the grave.
Reviving in Dark and Darker is exceptionally punishing, not only for you but also for your teammates. Sometimes you have to get out quickly, but if the chance arises where you can replenish your numbers, you can revive your friends with your vitality.
How to Revive in Dark and Darker
Requirements for Reviving
Reviving in Dark and Darker requires mainly two things:
- A Soul Heart of the Dead Party Member
- An Alter of Sacrifice
The Soul Heart can be taken from a dead party member by removing any armor they had equipped and dragging the blue heart into your inventory or utility slot. Getting your friend’s Soul Heart is the easy part; finding an Altar of Sacrifice is where things get complicated.
The Altar of Sacrifice can be found in different parts of the dungeon and typically resides in open areas or surrounded by undead enemies. Regardless of wherever you find an Altar of Sacrifice, you must equip your friend’s Soul Heart, then interact with the Altar. With average or low Interaction Speed, using the Altar of Sacrifice can take up to 20 seconds.
Ensure you don’t have to move, or the ring won’t close in on your position while you’re stuck in this long animation. However, if you need to interrupt your cast, you can move at any time and keep your friend’s Soul Heart. With it, you can try again to revive them in Dark and Darker.
What to Do After Using an Altar of Sacrifice in Dark and Darker
Once the ritual is complete, your character will sacrifice some of their health in order to bring their teammate back from the grave. Typically, using the Altar of Sacrifice costs 15% of one’s HP, but their ally will revive with that transferred amount.
Once your friend has been revived, they will spawn naked, without any weapons or armor. Therefore, it is highly advised to bring their gear with you if their body is not close by so that they do not have to wander the dungeon unclothed. Additionally, your friend will have critically low health; thus, if you have a protective Cleric build on your team, use healing spells or give them some Healing Potions or Bandages to restore their vitality.

Alternative Ways to Revive in Dark and Darker
There is another way to bring back your friends, but it’s less likely to happen. Clerics can equip the Resurrection spell, which is an 8th-tier spell with only one cast. This spell requires a lot of Knowledge to equip; otherwise, you have to sacrifice other spells, which is not recommended.
If you do have a Cleric with the Resurrection spell, they don’t need to look for an Altar of Sacrifice in order to revive a teammate in Dark and Darker. Use the Resurrection on your ally’s body and wait for the lengthy cast to finish. The only perk of being revived with Resurrection is that they wake up in their original body and not a new one, so they have all their gear and weapons back.
Additionally, Clerics have a passive that increases the amount of health players get after being revived; therefore, consider taking this passive if you have a Cleric in your party and a Rogue who loves to die ahead of the team.
