During the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase on June 12th, The developers showed us tons of new games and updates to current ones. One of the many games showcased during this event was Sea of Thieves. Rare revealed their new trailer teasing future updates along with the upcoming seventh season for Sea of Thieves. Let’s dive into everything we know so far.
Captaincy
One of the more highly requested updates the community has been waiting for has finally been announced at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase. Soon at the start of season seven, we will finally be able to become a captain of our ships. Along with finally giving a member of your crew the title, many additional ships cosmetic updates are coming along with the update.
Alongside decorating your ship’s exterior with the hull, capstan, anchor, cannons, and sails, we will finally have the ability to decorate the interior. Customizing your cabin is finally here. Previews show a difference in the carpets, lighting, paintings, and little trinkets that fill up your shelves. While some may consider this a small change, it adds a lot for those who love to complete commendations and acquire new fashion.
Since one of the primary features of Sea of Thieves is gaining gold which you spend on cosmetics for your ship and your pirates, new unlockable cosmetics give players a continuous reason to stay in the game to earn more customization.
New Ability to Name Your Ship in Sea of Thieves
The other update to the ships is finally the ability to name your boat. Players have always seen ships with names, especially those diving under the waves to rescue lost cargo for the Merchant Alliance. Of course, if there isn’t a use of profanity, you can name your ship whatever you wish. We think this is a long overdue update coming in the 7th season of Sea of Thieves.
Save Ship Loadouts to Save Time Swapping
Lastly, the ability to save ship loadouts is also added with season seven. You no longer must spend a few minutes at the beginning of every session equipping all the different parts of a ship set. With one press of a button, you will apply your entire ship’s cosmetics, and hopefully, the new interior applies to this ship loadout as well.
Extra New Additions Coming in Season 7 of Sea of Thieves
The rest of these new features have only gotten a small teaser of what they are or could be. Among what was previewed, we were shown new cash-in points are being added, like the new Sea Forts, which have a pulley that allows you to bring loot out to your boat much more accessible. These platforms appear to be added to outposts, allowing you to quickly unload loot off your ship.
We were also teased with a few new things but don’t have enough context for them yet. “Choose your path” could be referring to just the freedom of player choice, but if this is a new system, we are unaware of what this refers to. Earning unique rewards can be drawn to the same conclusion, just a way to market to new players, or the process could have ties to earning new rewards to decorate the interior of your ship.
Changes in Sea of Thieves with Season Seven
One brief detail showcased during the trailer was a list of changes coming to Sea of Thieves. Some elements of this list we have already covered, but the entirety of the list is:
- Become the Captain of your ship.
- Customize and decorate your Captain’s Cabin
- Name your vessel and present it on the Ship’s Crest
- Set Sail on Special Captain’s Voyages
- Save your Customizations for future adventures.
- Play as Captain or Crew to earn rewards.
- Easily sell your loot to the Sovereigns
- Chronicle your journey in the Captain’s Log
- Choose your path with different play styles.
The mention of Captain Voyages and playing as the Captain or Crew to earn rewards wasn’t gone into much detail. Perhaps the Captain system will be a more impactful change than initially anticipated. More cosmetics, titles, and much more can be added along with this system to encourage players to take up the Captain’s title.
Captain’s voyages are also something worth noting. Typically, voyages are restricted to partaking in a quest from one of the factions or setting out to complete a Tall Tale. If Captain’s Voyages could be a fancy name for saying that your Captain wants to make a specific voyage, or they could have additional rewards. Only time will tell, but we wouldn’t have to wait long to find out since season seven comes out on July 21st.
