The Call of Duty Zombies game mode began as a basic side mode with only one map and limited features. However, over time, it has grown in popularity and is now a beloved component of almost every Call of Duty game.

This successful zombie game mode saw its peak with Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, as this game perfected the game mode and brought with it some of the best maps Call of Duty Zombies have ever seen. One of these maps is the Origins map, the Dig Site.

The Origins map is considered the best Call of Duty Zombies map for its incredible visuals, presentation, and high content, such as weapons, items, enemies, easter eggs, and more. There is always something interesting happening in this map and something to strive for; even those who think they have mastered it will need assistance to complete everything available in one run.

If you want to know everything about the Origins map in Call of Duty Zombies, stick with us and become the monsters that the zombies will fear in the horrifying trenches of WW1.

Where and How to Play the Origins Map in Call of Duty

Zombie hordes get bigger every round.

This map was initially released as a map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, available for PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U. So, if you own a copy of this game, don’t doubt it anymore; boot up this old classic.

If you are looking for an upgraded and better version, both mechanically and visually, get Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 with the Zombie Chronicles expansion. This version is a remaster of the original map with stunning graphics that are still impressive in 2023.

This game is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and their previous-generation consoles. With their retro-compatibility options, you can play it on the newest generation of consoles.

Valuable Items in Call of Duty Zombies Origins

In Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s Origins map, players can find various items useful for combat and puzzle solving. Some are easier to obtain than others, requiring players to complete more complex steps in order to assemble the item.

    Maxis Drone

The Maxis Drone is an automated drone that flies around a player, shooting nearby zombies, reviving teammates, and picking up power-ups. Once activated, this drone lasts a minute and a half before returning to the workbench to recharge.

The Maxis Drone will stick to the player for protection, effectively killing many zombies they encounter on the CoD Origins map.

Not only is this valuable drone useful in combat, but it is also necessary to complete one of the main Easter eggs of the storyline of the Origins map.

Shovels Scattered around CoD’s Origins Zombies Map

Elemental Staff parts can be found while digging up piles of dirt.

Players can grab a few shovels on the Origins zombies map to dig up piles of dirt and find valuable items, guns, power-ups, and even traps such as zombies or live grenades. There are two shovels at spawn and one near the tank by the church. For more details and specific screenshots to help you out, check out our guide to all of the Origins shovel locations.

These shovels can help you get items that are important and can help you get to places on the map.

    Golden Shovel

The Golden Shovel is an upgraded version of the regular shovel that enables players to obtain valuable items like the golden helmet, empty perk bottle, and unique weapons.

    Zombie Shield

If the Zombie Shield gets destroyed, it can be obtained again from the workbench.

To obtain the Zombie Shield, players must locate three crucial parts scattered throughout the game map and build it on a workbench. Equipping the shield enables players to defend their front and block attacks from the rear, making it a valuable early-game item.

    Mark IV Tank

The Mark IV Tank is a rideable tank necessary for obtaining specific parts for one of the Elemental Staffs. Additionally, it is a valuable defensive item, as it can protect you from zombies in many different dire situations you’ll find yourself in on the Origins zombie map.

The Mark IV Tank will have to cool down after each use.

    Der Wunderfizz Machine

The Der Wunderfizz Machine is an item on the map that gives the player a random perk at a reduced price. This machine also provides access to perks that cannot be obtained directly from the map, such as Double Tap and Widow’s Wine.

A machine that gives players perks in CoD on Origins map
The Der Wunderfizz Machine only costs 1,500 points and can spawn valuable perks.

It is important to know that the Der Wunderfizz Machine moves around a lot during the game. Don’t always expect to find it easily in the last location you spotted it.

    G-Strike Beacon

The G-Strike Beacon is a throwable, wondrous weapon that works similarly to the infamous Monkey Bomb. Once activated, it will attract zombies and be shot by one of the Giant Robots, killing all the zombies in the area but only working outdoors.

Acquiring the G-Strike Beacon on the Origins map in Call of Duty Zombies is a complicated task, as it involves getting numerous melee kills without stepping on the mud.

    Magic & More

Magical items are essential to this map, as they will grant the player access to powerful weapons, such as the Elemental Staffs or the Thunder Punch. While these items are great, most of them are challenging to acquire, and various processes are required to obtain them.

The Elemental Staffs are buildable Wonder Weapons, with various parts to construct. Each staff has its own ability and requires a different process for building and upgrading.

Four Elemental Staffs can be built in the CoD Zombies Origins map:

    • Staff of Lightning
    • Staff of Fire
    • Staff of Ice
    • Staff of Wind

These Elemental Staffs are incredibly deadly and are a must for surviving on this map. Any Staff you pick will replace one of your weapon slots unless you have the Mule Kick Perk.

    Soul Boxes

The Soul Boxes are chests located around the map wherein players must kill zombies around them to progress through the main Easter egg and acquire essential upgrades.

    One Inch Punch

The One-Inch Punch is a Melee upgrade in Call of Duty that replaces the standard knife and kills zombies in one hit up to Round 19. This upgrade is also required for the main Easter egg of the map.

The One-Inch Punch can also be upgraded to the Iron Fist while completing the “Little Lost Girl” Easter egg. Once upgraded to the Iron Fist, the player’s melee attacks can kill zombies in one hit up to round thirty-six.

    Generators

Players must stand nearby the generators to activate them.

The Generators are an essential part of this map as they are required for various activities, such as activating energy in zones of the map and activating the Pack-N-Punch machine.

These generators will spawn Templar soldiers to prevent activation and deactivate them randomly, disabling the Pack-N-Punch.

    Pack-N-Punch

The Pack-N-Punch machine upgrades weapons, making them deadlier.

The Pack-A-Punch machine is an old classic part of the Call of Duty Zombies mode. It allows players to upgrade their weapons to survive more rounds.

On CoD Zombies’ Origins map, this machine must be accessed by activating all the generators on the map and paying 5,000 points to Pack-A-Punch weapons and 2,500 points to improve Pack-A-Punched weapons.

The Pack-N-Punch machine can be disabled during the match by Templar Zombies attacking one of the generators.

Challenges on the CoD Zombies Origins Map

Completing a challenge on the origins map in call of duty zombies

There are four challenges in this map, two of which must be completed to finish the main Easter egg of the Origins map.

    1. Activate all six generators.
    2. Get 115 Headshots
    3. Spen 30,000 points
    4. Fill the four chests with zombie souls

These four challenges can be completed naturally, as most require actions that the players are likely to do during a match.

Enemies You Will Encounter on the CoD: Zombies Origins Map

The Origins map in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 offers three types of zombies.

    Zombies

A basic zombie enemy trying to attack the player in an FPS video game
Zombies will require more shots to kill as the match progresses

These are the standard enemies for the Origins map, which will respawn each round, becoming increasingly resistant and numerous as the match progresses. Thought they start off each game of CoD Zombies on Origins fairly weak, they do become a challenge before you know it!

    Templar Zombies

A templar zombie enemy type in an underground location on the Origins map in Call of Duty

The Templar Zombies spawn at specific locations around the Origins map in Call of Duty and offer no extra challenge compared to regular zombies.

Templar Zombies, or Crusaders Zombies, appear on this map whenever the player activates a generator or randomly throughout the match in order to disable them.

This type of zombie spawns in Excavation Sites, Tunnels, and other unusual locations. When encountered, they can be dealt with using regular tactics as they behave like regular zombies.

    Panzersoldats

The Panzersoldat is a zombie type that will give you nightmares after a session of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombies. This giant zombie has an armored suit, a flamethrower, and a grapple.

A tough enemy in armor that players must battle after many rounds in CoD zombies game mode
The Panzersoldats’ weak spot is their face shield.

After round 12, a specific kind of zombie will appear every six rounds. You might see multiple ones at once, and they’re called Panzersoldats. These zombies are tough to defeat and will need upgraded weapons to take them down.

Final Thoughts on the Origins Zombie Map in Call of Duty

Call of Duty: Origins can be one of the most challenging zombie maps to complete, even with everything available to players. Yet, it is also undoubtedly one of the most fun out there! This map provides hours upon hours of entertainment you can enjoy with your friends, especially if you own Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
