Howdy, VR fans and proud owners of an Oculus Rift looking for games to play with your kids. Today, we’ll help you pick out titles that are kid-friendly and, at the same time, fun for the whole family. On the flip side, we’ll also list a couple of horrendous ones to steer you away from bad game purchases.

Why do Kids Love Playing Games on the Oculus Rift?

Alright, so the long and short of the appeal of the Oculus Rift with kiddos is that the platform has plenty of games. Also, they’re playable in VR, adding a new dimension to the gameplay that home consoles cannot provide. Heck, even adults love the immersion that the VR experience of the Oculus brings to games, not just kids.

Which Type of Oculus Rift Games Should Kids Play?

Before diving into our list for today, we’ll lay out the strict criteria so that everything’s transparent for our readers. For games to qualify for the excellent category, they must possess the following traits.

    • The Oculus Rift games for kids should have incredible depth and easy-to-pick game mechanics. After all, what’s the point of having complexity in a kid’s game? The idea is to have fun, not write an essay about it.
    • Secondly, the games must have themes that kids will love. Now, for lone wolf edge lords, that might not sit right, but that’s okay; today’s list isn’t for them.
    • Lastly, the games should have replay value. If a game’s not good enough to play again, there’s no point in buying it.

So there you have it, our criteria. Any game that checks all the prerequisites will qualify for the top-tier category. However, if we consider a game that fails to deliver on our pre-conditions, then prepare to read some sick burns.

What Oculus Rift Titles Are Suitable for Kids to Play?

Alright, enough dillydallying; we’re not wasting any more time and diving into our picks. Since we’re only doing the top 4, there’s no room for mediocre Oculus Rift games for kids. Only the best of the best and the most horrendous ones will make the cut. Let’s begin!

    4. Ritchie’s Plank Experience – The Absolute Worst Oculus Rift Game Period

Ritchie's Plank Experience is one of the worst Oculus Rift games for kids.
You know, a pirate theme will do wonders for a game about walking the plank. But no, that was too far out an idea for the devs of the horrid game Ritchie’s Plank Experience.

Hailing from a line of bland and unimaginative Oculus Rift games that Kids Shouldn’t ever experience is Ritchie’s Plank Experience. You walk the plank, or you fall. Simple as that, nothing more and incredibly less.

The Novelty of Ritchie’s Plank Experience Wears of Quick

It’s telling when a game like Ritchie’s Plank Experience is the rotten apple of the absolute worst Oculus Rift games for kids. The game’s about as fun as watching the elderly learning to walk.

Actually, scratch that; at least with the old-age folks, you can still have fun listening to them grumble. That’s far more entertaining than anything Richie’s Plank Experience brings.

    3. VR Karts – Trainwreck of an Oculus Rift Game

VR Karts is another horrible Oculus Rift game that kids shouldn't play.
Imagine borrowing an idea that works and, on paper, seems like a no-brainer to pivot it to VR, but what you get is a horrendous trainwreck. That’s VR Karts in a nutshell.

VR Karts is a game where you’ll spend more time wrestling with the controls than actually racing. Heavily ripping off the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe formula but doing an appalling job of it, VR Kart fails extravagantly. We have a list of the best PS5 racing games you can check out if you enjoy good racers.

Janky Controls, Awkward Camera Angles, and Bugs Make VR Karts An Awful Oculus Rift Monstrosity

The controls and camera angles have poor integration with VR elements, and the bugs are the last straw that will trigger your inner rage. Here’s an idea, if you want to punish your kids, you can make them play VR Karts. That’ll teach the brats to respect their parents.

    2. Acorn: Attack of The Squirrels! – Our Runner-up Game For The Top Oculus Rift Games

    Acorn: Attack of the Squirrels
Finally, a game that’s top-notch in gameplay, has fun visuals, and kids will love it. Ladies and gents, we present Accorn: Attack of The Squirrels!

Be a stealthy and sly squirrel; pick your moment, sneak toward the stingy tree, and steal those precious acorns. Alternatively, you can play as the sentient tree, only trying not to get mugged by the pesky squirrels. Either way, you’re in for an enjoyable time, no matter which side you pick in Acorn: Attack of The Squirrels.

Full disclosure, Acorn: Attack of The Squirrels requires one other partner to pair up with you to play the game. In simple terms, you can’t play the game solo. If you enjoy games you can’t play alone; we recommend going through our list of top 5 co-op games like A Way Out.

Kids Will Love Messing Around and Teaming Up or Playing Against Each Other in Teams in Acorn: Attack of The Squirrels

The colorful art style and silly nature of Acorn: Attack of The Squirrels, plus its diverse background layouts, make it stand out. Kids, in particular, will enjoy the ridiculous antics of the squirrels.

The excellent controls allow for easy-to-master skills that create a competitive spirit within children playing the game. For us, Acorn: Attack of The Squirrels is one of the most incredible Oculus Rift games for kids.

    1. Cookout: A Sandwich Tale – The Best Oculus Rift Game for Kids

    Cookout: A Sandwich Tale
A game that’s as deliciously looking as it is satisfying to play, Cookout: A Sandwich Tale excels at everything in what a good VR Oculus Rift game for kids should be.

This is it, the top spot on our list of the best Oculus Rift titles for kids. We can’t think of a better game to award the honor than Cookout: A Sandwich Tale.

The answer is pretty simple if you’re wondering why this game is the best among the other VR Oculus Rift games. Kids and adults can form a bond through cooking, and Cookout: A Sandwich Tale is the best cooking game on the Oculus Rift.

Working Together is Vital to Win in Cookout: A Sandwich Tale

So, the biggest draw for us, that we feel kids will also love, is when playing Cookout: A Sandwich Tale, teamwork is essential. The VR controls allow for tossing the ingredients back and forth, and kids will have a blast shooing away the ghosts and spirits trying to ruin their dish.

Parents can play along with them and join in on the fun in this beautiful and charming Oculus Rift game for kids. If you like competitive and multiplayer games, check out our list of co-op party games like Overcooked!

Final Thoughts About the Best Oculus Rift Games for Kids

Well, that concludes our short list of Oculus Rift games for kids; we hope you all find something to play with kiddies. Which games are your favorite on the Oculus Rife? Tell us about them in the comments below, and please share your thoughts on our picks, too. We look forward to reading any feedback from our readers and appreciate their engagement.

We appreciate games that break the mold by transitioning to other gaming platforms. If you’re looking for games that present new ideas for casual audiences, check out the best mobile games for couples. Until next time, we hope you all stay safe and happy gaming, everyone!
