In your many adventures down in the caves of Hoxxes, you have likely encountered a Machine Event. These optional events allow you to gain additional Overclocks for your guns & cosmetics by completing a randomized event. We will go through each Machine Event in Deep Rock Galactic to give our tips on how to complete them, including the Omen Modular Exterminator, which is the hardest out of them all.
What are Machine Events?
Machine Events are random events that have a chance of spawning in any regular mission. The likelihood of an event spawning is more common the longer the mission length, ranging from 15% to 35%. Completing a Machine Event rewards players with XP, credits, and a Matrix Core Cosmetic/Weapon Overclock, given that you have a Blank Matrix Core. If you don’t have a Matrix Core, you can obtain one by completing the Weekly Core Hunt or completing each stage of a Deep Dive. If you are new to Deep Rock Galactic, a Machine Event can only be activated with a Tritylate Key which you obtain after promoting your first dwarf.
How to Complete the Omen Modular Exterminator in Deep Rock Galactic
Let’s start with the most challenging event on the list, the Omen Modular Exterminator. This event will deploy a Modular Extermination Tower, a slowly rotating cylinder that must be destroyed. There are three different levels to this tower, and each has a weak point that must be shot to disable one of the sections. There are three platforms a player must stand on that exposes the weak point for each section. Any player can hit the weak points so long as one dwarf remains on a platform. There are three different platforms, which open different weak spots for different levels on the tower.
Despite this event only having three different levels to the Modular Exterminator tower, there are four possible weapons it can spawn with.
The Heavy Burster Module
The heavy burster component of the Omen Modular Exterminator in Deep Rock Galactic has three weak points that slowly drag a targeting laser around the tower. If the laser passes over a player, a machine gun will start firing at them, dealing a lot of damage. If you don’t touch the laser, you won’t take any damage.
The Twin Slicer Module
The module has two weak points that perform sweeps around the tower at various heights. These lasers are the easiest to avoid, possibly even pointing out harm’s way.
The Radial Pulse-Gun Component
This component has three weak points and is the most formidable weapon the Omen Modular Exterminator has in its arsenal. This weapon will always spawn at the bottom layer of the tower to send out slow-moving purple beams, which deal a mountainous amount of damage when touched. The beams can be dodged, jumped over, or blocked by rocks. The Engineer’s platform gun can elevate players above beams while on platforms. It’s best to focus on this tower section first to make the other weapons easier to destroy.
The Drone Replicator
The Drone Replicator is the last weapon and has three weak points to hit. As the weapons name implies, it deploys slow-moving drones which close in on players before detonating. All the drones have low HP, and a few bullets will put them down quickly before they get too close. A fresh set of drones will spawn roughly around six seconds, even if the previous drones haven’t been destroyed yet.
The Omen Modular Exterminator also has 70% resistance to explosions, fire, and frost. Make sure to be using regular ammunition for hitting the weak points. Otherwise, this Machine Event will take much longer to complete. We highly recommend that Gunner is the best dwarf to bring for this situation. His Shield Generator negates all the mechanics of the Omen Modular Exterminator for a short amount of time. Gunner’s Minigun also completely obliterates the tower’s weak points, making them the best pick to take down this machine.
All Other Machine Events in Deep Rock Galactic
Kursite Infection
This Machine Event in Deep Rock Galactic has infected some local bugs and lures them to your location when activating the machine. When turning on this machine, a laser grinder will spin up while new Kursite Infected enemies will begin to spawn. These enemies are altered bugs with blue skin and yellow crystals that drop chunks of Kursite when they die. Glyphid Acid Spitters, Praetorians, and Mactera Spawns will be the main enemies that become infected with Kursite. Whenever you defeat one of these bugs, take the chuck of Kursite and deposit it into the machine. Once you deposit enough into the engine, the event ends; it’s that easy.
Ebonite Mutation
Another Machine Event has mutated the bugs of Hoxxes. Glyphids, Grunts, and Praetorians have been altered to have skin made of rock, which makes bullets useless on them. When activating this Machine Event, the Overcharge Sprinkler will spit out glowing canisters that grant the dwarves a temporary buff that reduces their pickaxe power attack cooldown. After grabbing a power-up, spam your power attack to crack these rock-infected bugs quickly. When you kill enough Ebonite bugs, the event will end. This Machine Event is easily the most fun event and requires little to no setup to complete.
Tritilyte Crystal
The last Machine Event is the Tritilyte Crystal event, where Mission Control sends in a Nanite Bomb Dispenser to crack open this massive crystal. These Nanite Bomb Charges must be carried and thrown at the crystal to damage its health bar. These bombs are considered heavy objects but cannot be thrown more than once since they are explosives. These charges will blow upon hitting a surface, hitting an enemy, or being shot. The Nanite Bomb Dispenser can also spawn further away than you’d like. We recommend using an Engineer’s platform, Gunner’s zipline, or having Driller make a tunnel to make the walk to the crystal much easier. The event ends once you have thrown enough explosive charges at the crystal.
Rewards from Machine Events in Deep Rock Galactic
At the end of every Machine Event is when the Core Infuser becomes available. If you have a Blank Matrix Core, a player can insert one core into the infuser to choose between two random Weapon Overclocks or a cosmetic for different classes in DRG. Even if you continue the rest of the mission and fail, whatever reward you have picked stays with you, so do not be worried about losing your new weapon Overclocks or cosmetics.
That was our guide on how to complete every Machine Event, including the Omen Modular Exterminator, in Deep Rock Galactic. Season two of DRG, Rival Escalation, has launched and includes many changes, including new weapons.
