Riot shields are modern-day shields that soldiers or SWAT police can use to protect themselves from small-arms fire while advancing on an enemy in the open. These shields are of great interest to first-person shooter fans because they add an extra dimension to the typical gameplay of hiding behind walls and boxes. Instead, players can take their mobile cover with them! The big question for CoD Vanguard fans is then, is there a riot shield in Vanguard?
The riot shield or the combat shield made its first appearance among the call of duty titles in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, and after this, it was also included in Call of Duty Vanguard. So, yes. There is a riot shield in CoD vanguard.
Reactions on the Return of the Combat Shield
Opinions vary a lot among Vanguard players as to whether or not it’s a good thing to include a shield in this release. Some people really love the riot shield and the others are against the idea of it in the game.
A riot shield blocks all the incoming fire and keeps the player completely safe from damage. It is equipped as one of the primary weapons in the match. Basically, it is supposed to save the player’s front side from the oncoming enemies.
Some players are really annoyed to see a lot of players running riot shields on their backs (turtles). These types of riot shield users get some benefits but the others feel really frustrated as it makes it harder to hit them.
The Riot Shield Strategy
Like many other players, you can use the overkill perk to get another primary weapon along with the riot shield. After this, just stick it onto your back and continue to play as you normally do. This will protect you against attacks from the enemies behind you on the battlefield.
This strategy is quite common in the vanguard multiplayer matches.
By using the best equipment, perks, and a field upgrade, you can really make the best use of the riot shield. You can also equip a secondary weapon such as MP40, to switch to when you reach close enough to the enemy.
Is the riot shield really the best weapon in Call of Duty Vanguard?
The players feel like some sort of movement penalty should be implemented for the players using riot shields on their backs.
Or at least FMJ should be able to penetrate through it and do some damage. FMJ is an ammo type in the game which allows the players to deal more damage through surfaces.
Many people took the matter onto Reddit and expressed their opinions on it. A popular post detailed how sledgehammer games can help to deal with the excess and overpowered use of the riot shield in Vanguard.
The original poster on the Reddit thread later added that an armor-piercing ammo type can be a better option.
A majority of the players also want sledgehammer games to introduce a counter to the riot shield. As of now, the only way to counter the riot shield is to attack the player from behind or by finding the right moment. Fortunately, players with the riot shield can’t use a powerful weapon like an assault rifle at the same time!
The Riot Shield in Vanguard is Broken!
The riot shield created a lot of hype among the players and community members when it was released.
The players really thought that it was the most powerful weapon out there among the other Vanguard weapons. But sooner, many defects were observed.
When the player has the shield grabbed in hand, his head is clearly sticking out. Resultantly, the enemy can get an easy kill through a headshot. One vanguard player later posted on Reddit that this was fixed sooner in a patch.
Your bullets can also be blocked by a teammate running in with a riot shield. Whereas in some situations this can be helpful too. As to get some cover quickly, for example during reloading the gun, the teammate’s shield can prove to be handy.
We will keep you posted about more vanguard stuff.
