Since the announcement of Deep Rock Galactic’s second season, Rival Escalation, we have been teased with a new killer robot that stalks the caves of Hoxxes looking for dwarfs. The Nemesis is designed to be the deadliest enemy in DRG and has succeeded in encompassing this title thus far. Today we will be breaking down the best ways to combat the Nemesis and possibly save your life.
The Nemesis in Deep Rock Galactic
This new robot cooked up from the Rival Tech faction uses a combination of threats and weapons we have seen since Deep Rock Galactic’s first season. You know when a Nemesis is nearby when you hear it call out reused player voice lines. Yet, they sound more robotic and glitchy. This robot is the only enemy in the game that is highlighted on the map with a bright moving triangle. But do be careful when engaging.
The Nemesis in DRG is very deadly when in close-quarters combat. It will even dig through several layers of rock to get to you. This killer robot has three weak points you can strike to do increased damage, two below the arms and one in its eye. Each of its arms can grab a dwarf and suspend them in the air while it peruses the rest of your team. Once you are caught, there is no escape as your shield is quickly broken, and your HP is drained in a matter of seconds.
The perk Heightened Senses works against a grab attack from the Nemesis in Deep Rock Galactic. Yet, you will still take a lot of damage unless you act quickly. The perk will still give you a warning before you are grabbed at the very least. The only other way to escape its grab is to have some amount of terrain between you and the Nemesis’ arms; even shooting the robot’s arms won’t release you.
Nemesis Weaknesses & Tactics
This Killer Robot has Limited Range
If you aren’t in melee range, the robot’s only way to engage against you is to launch defensive force fields toward you. These barriers don’t inflict a lot of damage. They are mainly used to block your fire and shove you around on contact. The Nemesis has no other ranged capabilities in its arsenal. Furthermore, its entire arsenal of moves is set on closing the distance to get you into melee range.
This robot still has one last trick up its sleeve if it’s unsuccessful in its mission to destroy you. When the Nemesis is defeated, it spouts more dying breath before the area around its corpse is bombarded with mines. These mines will highlight an area before detonating after a few seconds. This is another reason to maintain some distance between your team and the Nemesis in Deep Rock Galactic whenever possible.
Overheat the Nemesis in Deep Rock Galactic to Instantly Kill It
Luckily the Nemesis is like most other robots forged from the Rival Tech faction. It will instantly blow up if it’s overheated. This is in contrast to The Caretaker in Deep Rock Galactic, who is much more resistant to flames.
The Driller is the best dwarf class to combat a Nemesis quickly with their flamethrower. However, the Nemesis has a very large HP bar. It will take more than one canister from the flame thrower to put down a Nemesis.
If the robot is not under constant heat damage, it will start to cool off quickly. Utilizing the sticky flames from the Driller’s flamethrower, mark the ground underneath the Nemesis, if possible, to continue burning the robot while reloading or after a force barrier is shot.
If you manage to overheat the Nemesis, it will immediately explode and trigger its death effect of calling mines down. Frost damage doesn’t work on the Nemesis at all, and it’s highly advised not to try using any Cryo-related weaponry. Corrosive does work against the robots of Rival Tech, but heat is still more effective. The only real resistance these robots have is against any poison damage.
Tricks for Gunner to Defeat the Nemesis
Gunner also has Incendiary Grenades. These grenades can help in quickly bursting the Nemesis with flames, Yet this tactic is less consistent with damage output. You might not be able to finish the robot off with these grenades unless you get lucky. It’s also worth mentioning that Gunner’s shield may not always work against a Nemesis robot in Deep Rock Galactic.
How to Defeat the Nemesis in DRG as an Engineer
The Engineer’s new Shard Diffractor also deals heat damage, making it viable against robots. The Breach Cutter is also fantastic for dealing with quick bursts of damage to the Nemesis. Be careful with rapid shots from any weapon. This is because a force barrier will likely be shot in the direction from where the Nemesis took damage. Thus, spamming the Breach Cutter or any weapon with low ammo can result in wasted damage.
Scout has an easy time readjusting to hit the Nemesis from different sides and avoid the grab attack with their grappling hook.

Final Thoughts on How to Defeat the Nemesis in Deep Rock Galactic
Overall, the best strategy is to keep your distance from the Nemesis and do your best to fight it out in an open area. It’s one of the new bosses you can prepare for like a Dreadnaught since it’s marked on the map, as previously mentioned. Utilize any heat damage your dwarf may have; otherwise, do anything you can to maintain a reasonable distance or use any method of slowing this massive robot down before it closes the distance on you.
