There are plenty of houses that you can buy in Skyrim, and they all differ from one another. Some are better than others, but it ultimately depends on which is best for you. One of the earliest houses you can buy is Breezehome in Whiterun.
It is simply one of the earliest homes available to you. They range from free homes to 25,000 gold, meaning they sometimes cost quite a bit of money. This article will show you how to buy a house, and we will help you decide which one is best for you.
How Do I Buy A House?
Buying houses in Skyrim is simple. You need to talk to the Steward of the particular hold you are looking to buy a house in. For example, in Whiterun that would be Proventus. Before you get to buy a house in Skyrim, you will need to do some quests for the Jarl of the hold. The specifics are entirely dependent on where you are, but the same applies everywhere.
Basically, in most places, you will need to become a Thane before you can purchase a home or homestead in Skyrim. For most of the holds, you will need to help around the hold and do quests for the Jarl in order to buy a home.
Purchasing Your New Home from the Local Jarl
After you are done with the quests, talk to the Jarl and then to the Steward in order to finally buy a home. If a home is not available, you will gain access to a plot of land near the hold. This is a part of the Heartfire DLC, and by purchasing a plot, you can build your own house.
You can set up your own homestead in Hjaalmarch, Falkreath, and The Pale. We personally believe that the location of the Lakeview Manor in Skyrim is the most beautiful and most sought-after. If you have a choice, we recommend it.
What House Should You Buy?
There are some houses in Skyrim that are better than others, but generally, just buy one in your favorite city or hold onto it. For example, if you are a fan of snowy areas, Windhelm and Dawnstar are good choices; however, if you are a fan of forests, Falkreath is probably the best place.
The differences in houses are usually determined by what you get; for example, Breezehome is the only house that does not have an enchanting table, but it is also the cheapest. Solitude’s house is located near a lot of shops and is basically a mansion, yet it is the most expensive at 25000 gold.
If you adventure a lot, this will not be an issue for you as money will be easy to come by; however, for some, a smaller, less expensive house would be preferable so they can spend the money elsewhere, as functionally, they are very similar.
