The Original Silent Protagonist
Before Master Chief donned his iconic Spartan armor in the original Halo, gamers all over the world knew and loved the Doom Slayer from Doom, also known as Doom Guy. His penchant for violence and carnage has been well documented since the original game’s release in 1993.
While it’s less clear in the earlier entries of the series, the Slayer does appear to be physically imposing, especially in his Praetor Suit. With arms and legs as thick as tree trunks and a chest that looks like it barely fits through doorways, it makes you wonder “How tall is Doom Slayer?” and why anything, human or otherwise, would have the courage to take on this person.
The Doom Slayer is Very Tall and Built Like a Tank
He looks like he could take more than a few punches and is hell-bent on killing all the demons in hell. Perhaps he could even make Hell disappear. You can’t blame him. He’s been fighting them for 30 years. If the games continue to be as successful as they’ve been recently, he’ll fight them for 30 more.
Seeing Doom Guy, especially in Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal, you may wonder how tall is Doom Slayer or even how much does he weigh? Using resources from the game itself as well as comments and official documents from the development team, we can determine these answers.
The Slayer’s Origins
In the original Doom game and even Doom II, there isn’t much in the way of character development. You play a soldier in first-person and shoot demons and other enemies in Doom. Later Doom games developed the real story of the Doom Marine. It as further developed in the awesome Doom novels, which expanded on the events of the games. Specifically in the Doom 3 novel, where the Doom Guy’s name is said to be John Kane. This was the largely accepted name for a long time, up until the release of Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal.
Descendant Of A Warrior
In those games, you find lore throughout each level hinting that the Doom Marine might actually be a descendant of B.J. Blazkowicz, the protagonist of the Wolfenstein games family.
This revelation isn’t that much of a stretch, as Doom Marine rips and tears through demons with the same ferocity that B.J. does in every Wolfenstein game. No matter how many demons he kills, or how many glory kills he performs, there are always more. Yet, he is always ready to do what he was born to do: unleash hell.
In every Doom game, one thing is constant, Doom Slayer stands tall above all of his dead, shattered, demonic foes!
What His Creators Think
The creators of Doom, including legendary developer John Romero, insist that they intended to keep the main character’s name and origins intentionally vague. They never wanted him to be a full character. They wanted him to be a self-insert, or a blank slate for the players to project themselves upon. Why they would do this in a game as violent as Doom is unclear. Perhaps to serve as some kind of stress relief.
Other Appearances
Besides the demonic invasion covered in every game in the Doom series, our our tall Doom Slayer hero has also appeared in a number of other games, in all of his beefy glory.
He has appeared as a playable character in several Quake games including Quake II Arena, Quake III Arena, and Quake Champions, all of which are also developed by id Software.
An Unlikely Appearance
Doom’s fan community was even loud enough to get him into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Mii skin. Yet, his proportions definitely don’t match what they are in his main games. Furthermore, you’re not going to see the kind of violence he’s associated with. Instead of exploding into gore and viscera, the Doom Slayer falls unconscious. This is a Nintendo game after all.
While Doom Guy made his way into another game entirely, many fans of the most recent Doom game have been wondering if they can play Doom with their friends via cross platform play.
Doom Slayer Throughout The Years
In the three decades since the first Doom game was released, the Doom Slayer has gone through a few different looks.
While this could be attributed to the advancement of technology, new artists working on his appearance, and the use of different game engines, I like to think that he himself has evolved over all this time.
How Tall is Doom Slayer and How Does He Stack Up
According to my sources, the Spartan from Halo is 6ft 10in and 287lbs without his armor. With his armor, the Doom slayer stands at 7ft tall and weighs 1000 pounds. That’s quite a bit of soldier to compare to, so how does Doom Slayer stack up?
According to the character description in Doom Eternal, Doom Slayer stands at 6ft 8in, and 360lbs in his suit. Even if the suit itself is exceptionally heavy, it’s clear that he is not like other humans.
Who Would Win in a Fight?
While there may never be a crossover where you’ll have to pick DoomGuy or Master Chief, I’d actually put my money on the former.
If Master Chief wins, it would mean that he had more trauma and rage than the Doom Slayer. Yet, that just doesn’t seem possible. The Spartan has some achievements, sure. Yet they are nothing like destroying the Icon of Sin or the Dark Lord in Doom Eternal.
The Dark Lord dies in an exceptionally gruesome fashion after eliciting one of the Doom Slayer’s only words in the game: “No”. And that’s not even the final doom, there was a ton more carnage in the Ancient Gods DLC.
Final Thoughts on How Tall the Doom Slayer Is
The Doom slayer is a very tall character. He is one of the largest characters in all of gaming fiction. He would even stand up in a fight against the legendary Master Chief.
