Fermenting is a pillar of Valheim’s late-game progression. Much like crafting potions in Minecraft, having a Fermenter allows you to create a dozen different meads. These meads can offer elemental resistances or stamina and healing potions. While it’s not a be-all-end-all requirement to progress in Valheim, having a Fermenter certainly helps you defeat every boss and overcome any challenge.
However, unlike Minecraft, the Fermenter takes a long time to finish your meads, but how long does it take to ferment fully?
So, How Long Does Fermenting Take in Valheim?
It takes 2 in-game days to ferment any meads or potions fully. This timer is separate for each fermentor, so having multiple fermenters to craft an entire batch will drastically increase your product output.
Putting one mead into a fermenter will yield 6 potions, so building at least three will give you 16 meads every 2 in-game days.
Can you Speed Up the Fermenting Process in Valheim?
The only way you can accelerate the output of your fermenters in Valheim is to sleep whenever possible. Resting will allow you to skip the night cycle, and if you have any materials being processed, they will finish by the time you wake up. Of course, fermenting takes 2 in-game days, so you will need to skip a couple of night cycles to get your meads quickly.
This sleep skip works for all crafting stations. If you have any ores in a smelter, wood in a charcoal kiln, or flax in a spinning wheel, sleeping will save you a lot of time waiting for your items to finish processing.

Final Thoughts on Fermenting in Valheim
That’s our short guide for how long it takes to ferment in Valheim and what you can craft with a fermenter. The fermenter is a handy crafting station and is oftentimes required for progression by most players’ standards.
Most players begin to use the fermenter far more once they start wandering into the Swamp for the Poison Resistance Mead or the Mountains because of the Frost Resistance Mead.
Either way, crafting food, consumables, and anything in Valheim is extremely rewarding and brings an extra level of comfort to the game’s atmosphere. To find one of the game’s most valuable and rare resources, check out our guide on how to get Abyssal Barnacles in Valheim.
