So keep your eyes peeled, and let the guessing games begin! Now, let’s do away with the suspense and unveil our list. This one’s gonna be a fun ride to the finish, so settle in. We’re about to rank all the best game releases on the Nintendo Switch so far.
10. Fire Emblem: Three Houses – The Most Popular Entry in The Fire Emblem Series Delights Like No Other
Kicking things off, we’ve got the latest mainline entry in the ever-popular Fire Emblem franchise. Fire Emblem: The Three Houses is among those highly entertaining Nintendo Switch games that are also newcomer friendly. You don’t gotta worry about remembering tons of lore or have any prior experience with previous entries. It certainly helps, though, and we highly recommend playing the best Fire Emblem games.
Anyway, Fire Emblem: The Three Houses, at its core, is a tactical roleplaying game. Emphasis on the tactical part. The gameplay not only requires players to focus on strategies but also be mindful of the enemy unit’s strength. The game gives several companion units to the protagonist. If any of the ally units fall in combat, they remain unavailable for the entirety of the playthrough.
Oh yes, your choice of picking one of the titular three houses impacts the story significantly. Also, the game’s a race against the clock, and you must choose to spend the protagonist’s spare time after careful thought. Naturally, this means that Fire Emblem: The Three Houses is a Nintendo Switch game with loads of replay value. You can’t see everything in one or even two playthroughs. The game constantly throws surprises and plot twists at the player.
9. Pokemon Legends: Arceus – The True Open World Pokemon Game With Magnificient Visuals Impresses
Moving along our list of top-tier Nintendo Switch games, we’re going with Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Sure, it has its detractors, and we’re also critical of it, but we can’t deny its enjoyability. The game’s major shift to highly crisp visuals, freedom of exploration, and traversal in gorgeous environments is a phenomenal feat. Pokemon Legends: Arceus has incredible depth with innovative game mechanics.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus has enough going for it to make it a standout entry in the line-up of best Pokemon games. The inclusion of Alpha Pokemon, a rare version of standard ones that are huge and more powerful, is a nice incentive to fully search every nook and cranny of each biome in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. This leads to the other unique trait of the game; Pokemon can attack the protagonist, not just their Pokemon.
If you’re looking for more reasons to check out Pokemon Legends: Arceus, how about this one? The premise is not the standard Pokemon fare but rather has time-travel elements! Oh, and instead of becoming a Pokemon master, the goal is to save the world by sealing the rift that’s causing devastation! The battles are intense, and players will love playing Pokemon Legends: Arceus; it’s one of the finest games on the Nintendo Switch.
8. Octopath Traveler – One the Most Unique Nintendo Switch Games is A Throwback to the Golden Age of JRPGS
Keeping things going on our list of fantastic Nintendo Switch games, we have another outstanding one, Octopath Traveler. As the name implies, the game’s about a journey, but here’s the twist. There are not one, two, three, or even four protagonists, but eight main characters! Players have the option of picking and playing as any one of them, and the rest can be recruited along the way.
Each main character’s starting position is in a different location, so players will see their individual stories unfold. Also, each character’s got a unique combat style that’s not customizable, but players can assign a flexible sub-class. The game’s visuals are eye-candy for us retro-gamers who love the golden era of excellent NES games. Octopath Traveler unveils the story in a highly innovative way.
The playable characters have two paths for their character-specific actions. The noble way requires them to use their skillset in a positive way that earns the trust of NPCS. Conversely, if the player uses unsavory tactics as a means to the end, the reputation of the group will drop. Low reputation means character actions won’t be usable. Overall, Octopath Traveler is a must-play for fans of top-notch Nintendo Switch games.
7. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – The Greatest Nintendo Crossover Game of All Time is Tons of Fun
Next up, we’ve got one of the most entertaining fighting games ever on the Nintendo Switch as our pick. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most accessible competitive games around. It’s the stuff dreams are made of. Seriously, the roster is a who’s who of Nintendo’s library of classic and modern characters. From Samus, Zelda, and Mario to Bayonetta, Pikachu, and even the adorable fuzzball Kirby, everyone’s here.
Aside from the first-party staple of Nintendo franchises, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate also has plenty of awesome guest characters. You have Solid Snake, Mega Man, Simon Belmont, Cloud Strife, and even Steve from Minecraft makes an appearance. That’s just one aspect of this exciting Nintendo Switch game. Other than fantasy match-ups, players can also expect a thrilling bout where the ways to win, though simple, aren’t always straightforward.
Players must reduce their opponent’s character hit points to zero before delivering the final blow. Alternatively, there’s a time limit condition as well, where the player with the most points at the end wins. Damaging the opponent drastically reduces their knockback resistance, and players win by throwing opponents out of the arena. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate easily stacks well against other top Nintendo Switch co-op games.
6. Splatoon 3 – Family Friendly Shooter is A Rollicking Good Time for the Whole Family
Capping off the first half of the list of excellent Nintendo Switch games, we’ve got Splatoon 3. If you’re wondering what makes this super joyful shooter so special, well, it’s a combination of a number of factors. The eye-catching aesthetic and the vibe of silliness nature are what most gamers will find appealing. Splatoon 3 has the fun factor cranked all the way up to 11 and will hook players immediately.
The game’s got a story mode which is super fun for the whole family, and there’s co-op implementation in it. Splatoon 3’s gameplay is where the game truly shines, especially its multiplayer mode. All of the Splatoon games have guns that, instead of firing bullets, have various colored paints. Players team up into two groups of anthropomorphic characters, Inklings and Octolings, and attempt to splash their opponents.
Players can form pools of their character’s corresponding color and use it to restore health and refill their weapon’s meter. The traversal and the ability to attack opponents from different angles make up for exciting gameplay. Splatoon 3 is such a fun shooter that it easily stacks against the best Nintendo Switch shooting games of all time.
5. The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild – The Most Ambitious Zelda Game on the Nintendo Switch
There’s no better Nintendo Switch game than The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild to usher us into the next phase of our list. Seriously, the grand scale and sheer breadth of the world map design are superb. The magnificence of The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild is within its true freedom. Players can go about the game’s quest in any order, and there’s no hand-holding.
Whatever players manage to uncover, they must first work for it. The blend of stylish visuals with a dash of realism is such a key decision that ultimately works in the game’s favor. Players will feel a sense of accomplishment as they discover new areas, clear dungeons, vanquish powerful foes and unlock new recipes. There’s an abundance of side missions on top of the main narrative to keep players busy.
The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild is a game-changing and perhaps the most influential game in the entire series since the first one. The sense of wonder and adventure when playing it is beyond compare. In our book, this game will easily stand the test of time and will long be in gamers’ memories for generations. The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild easily outclasses many top-tier open-world games on the Nintendo Switch.
4. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – The Best Current Gen Roleplaying Game is on the Nintendo Switch
Keeping things moving, we’re back in JRPG territory, but this time, it’s a banger of a game on the Nintendo Switch. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has an amazingly rich world, and the exploration aspect is one of the most rewarding experiences ever. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has active strategic combat, and precision is vital to staying alive. Naturally, this implies that should you dodge accurately, you can also dish out heavy punishment on enemies.
The game’s narrative is a sci-fi epic with loads of fantasy goodness and a dash of that anime-esque cringe to complete the formula. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will have players go through a diverse selection of regions, each with its own visual flare and specific creatures. The enemies are tough in this game, requiring a fair bit of patience to learn about their attack patterns.
Here’s another unique trait of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 that probably not many other top-notch JRPGS have. In Xenoblade Chronicles 3, players can recruit up to a staggering 19 characters in total, and the playable party can have up to 7 characters. This makes Xenoblade Chronicles 3 one of the most unique games on the Nintendo Switch. We highly recommend playing it if you’re into JRPGS.
3. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order – The Marvel Magic is Real, and It’s Sublime
Oh, this next one’s an absolute favorite Nintendo Switch game of ours, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. We’re glad the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series is alive on Nintendo’s hybrid platform. The best way to describe the game is as if Super Smash Bros. wasn’t a fighting game but rather like co-op action-RPG, hack-and-slash games like Diablo. Oh, and instead of Nintendo, it was all Marvel characters.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order mostly features the popular cinematic universe characters. You’ve got Iron Man, Captain America, Vision, and Thor, but then there are our personal favorites, the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters. Wolverine, Cyclops, Dr. Doom, and even Magneto are playable, which makes for some exciting pairings. The big baddie is Thanos and his Black Order.
The action is intense, and the vibrant art style feels straight out of the pages of comic books. The combos and attacks feel satisfying to land on enemies, and the attack animations are eye-catching. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order has plenty of nods to the comic book lore and much more tasteful homage to their legacy than the cinematic parody that’s commonplace in movies. We highly recommend this Nintendo Switch game to everyone.
2. Metroid: Dread – A Classic Return to Form for Metroid is Our Runner Up Best Nintendo Switch Game
Welp, we’re already at the runner-up spot on our list of fantastic Nintendo Switch games. Time sure flies when you’re having fun, huh? As the name suggests, Metroid: Dread is a game that will leave players panicking. There’s a sense of unease where you never know what’s around the corner.
The ambiance and soundtrack deliver an immersive and chilling experience in Metroid: Dread that players won’t forget easily. Metroid: Dread has the classic 2D Metroid-vania style of gameplay, where exploration, backtracking, and intense enemy encounters take place. However, the horror vibe of the game adds an extra layer of tension for gamers to overcome and beat the obstacles.
The game’s such a masterful piece of work that even after beating the game, it will tempt players to dive back in. There are plenty of shortcuts and tricks to discover that make life a hell of a lot easier in Metroid: Dread. All of these factors tip the scales in favor of Metroid: Dread to become our runner-up choice on the best Nintendo Switch games list.
1. Bayonetta 3 – The Umbra With Ascens to the Top Of Our Nintendo Switch Games List
At last! We’re at the final pick on our list of top-tier Nintendo Switch games, and we’re proud to introduce it as Bayonetta 3. No other female video game character has the charm, suaveness, and confidence to grab our attention as the Umbra Witch herself. She’s open about her allure, doesn’t shy from it, rather embracing it, and entices players and her enemies alike.
Having said that, she’s just as likely to lay the smackdown on anyone daring to oppose her. The third outing is even more bonkers and over-the-top than the previous 2 games. Plain and simple, Bayonetta 3 is the queen of single-player games on the Nintendo Switch. You won’t find a better title out there. Everything from the Witch Time combo to the monster summoning feels utterly satisfying to pull off. It’s a blast!
