Ahoy, there maties looking for changes to maps in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), wanna know what’s different? Well, look no further cause we’re about to put on our Sherlock hat and crack the case, so to speak. You see, we Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) enthusiasts gotta have all the info before we dive into the game. Otherwise, going in blind is gonna sour the competitive experience for a lot of gamers, and we don’t want that.

By now, it’s no secret that Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) is out for everyone after the initial playtesting phase. With Counter-Strike 2 (CS2)’s launch, the previous iteration, CS: GO, is no longer playable. The departure from CS: GO to the latest version of Counter-Strike has seen some shocking changes. Some gamers love them, some are against them, and some are on the fence. Regardless, one of the biggest changes is the map layouts, and that’s what we’re here to discuss.

How Many Map Types In Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) Are There?

We’re not gonna dance around the subject and get right to it. You wanna know what’s changed in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) maps? Well, we’ll tell ya. Lookie here~ we’ll explain everything in newbie terms so everyone’s on the same page. You see, Valve, the dev behind Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), has got 3 tiers of maps.

    • The Full Overhaul Maps.
    • The Touchstone Maps.
    • The Upgrade Maps.

We’ll break down the individual categories, show which ones fit where, and let you know what’s what. Capeesh? Good! Now, let’s kick off this party! Here we go!

What’s the deal with Full Overhaul Maps in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) and Are There Any Changes in Them?

The Overhaul maps in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) are, as the name suggests, the ones with the most changes. They are like completely different versions with lots of things happening and more noticeable features. Think completely drastic layout changes and new terrain that present their own sets of challenges and strategic vantage points. Not to mention the gorgeous upscaling of the oldest CS: GO maps.

The point is, if a map falls within the Overhaul category, you’re bound to experience something new in it.

What are the Touchstone Maps in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) and Do They Have Changes?

Now, we’re gonna get a little technical, so pay attention. So, the touchstone maps are the classic maps that fans will be most familiar with. Yep, if you’ve been playing Counter-Strike for any length of time, you’ll know all about these maps. It’s nostalgia express, baby~ where we argue all about which are the best and worst maps in CS: GO.

Consider the touchstone maps to be the legacy maps, that almost every casual and pro will know about.

How About the Upgrade Maps in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) and If They Have Changes?

Right, moving along, we’re shifting gears to talk about the Upgrade map category in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2). For this one, it’s pretty straightforward as well. Basically, the Upgrade maps are those that don’t change all that much aside from the visual boost in the new Source Engine 2. This game engine does a bang-up job of bringing out a nice little aesthetic change for players in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2).

Think improvement in lighting, better resolutions for high-end PCs, and slight tweaks every now and then with future updates.

Which Maps Specifically Have Changes in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2)?

Before do a deep dive into the question of specific maps, here’s a little bit of a more broader category for maps. You see, the maps are divided into Active-Duty map pools and Reserved pools in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2).

For the Reserved pool, all you need to know is, they’re for casual matches in CS2. While the Active-Duty maps are those that are popular choices for competitive play in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2).

Alright, now that we’ve classified the maps, let’s get down to their actual individual breakdown and changes in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2).

    Dust II

    Dust II (CS2) Map.

Think back to the day you first played Counter-Strike back in the day. Chances are, you were playing in Dust. For the newest version of the game, Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), we have the Dust II map, and it’s got little to no changes. Aside from the gorgeous visuals of course, so Dust II is a legacy map falling withinTouchstone category.

    Nuke

Nuke map in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) with a few changes.

Speaking of OG Counter-Strike maps, we’ve got Nuke, which is always been a mainstay of CS: GO. Nuke’s also present in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2). It’s a map that’s gotten a brush up with some condierable cosmetic upgrades. Though mostly, Nuke plays the same, meaning, it’s an Upgrade map with same playstyle in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2).

    Train

Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) Train Map has some changes too.

Another one of the Touchstone maps in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), Train is another classic reminder of CS: GO. While Train is out of the Reserve pool for it’s Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) debut, it’s not bringing anything new to the table. Still, them visuals are fire, though.

    Overpass

    Overpass (CS2).

Overpass was one of the relatively newer editions to the Counter-Strike lineup of maps. However, the great thing about this one is that Valve has brought Overpass map to Counter-Strike 2, and a slew of changes with it. Like there’s a lot to take in with Overpass, new terrain, new visuals, new structural design, and creating different gameplay aspects.

    Vertigo

Vertigo is one of the maps with changes in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2).

Another Touchstone type map, Vertigo is another pretty grid for players to play Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) casually with minimal changes. Like, seriously, Vertigo is actually one of the most gorgeous maps yet in the game.

    Office

Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) Office map has some nice changes.

We’re really tempted to put a meme with Michael Scott from the Office tv show here, but we’re gonna resist the temptation. Anyway, Office is one of the Upgrade maps, which have got some aesthetic touch-ups. Office, otherwise isn’t anything too different, rather more of the same in regards to Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) maps.

    Anubis

    CS2 Anubis Map.

Anubis is one of the new additions to Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) maps and there are a lot of changes, meaning it’s an Overhaul type. Presently, there are scenic sights with water bodies to gawk at for players. The level design is beyond spectacular in this one, and we highly recommend everyone to check out Anubis.

    Mirage

Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) Mirage map has quite a few changes to it.

Another major mainstay of the Counter-Strike is the Mirage map. The Mirage is an evergreen Touchstone map type with no changes, aside from enhanced graphics. In Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) players will enjoy the nostalgic vibes this one will invoke.

    Ancient

Anicent map in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) has been through it's fair share of changes.

Sure, plenty of players didn’t exactly take kindly to the Ancient map in CS: GO back in the day. However, we got a feeling many will enjoy the latest iteration of Ancient. It’s an Upgrade type map with a healthy mix of apparent and subtle changes in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2).

    Inferno

    Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) Inferno.

You wanna talk about big jaw-dropping maps of Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) with major changes, Inferno fits the bill. The layout of Inferno and the quality tetures will leave many players stunned. It’s an Overhaul type map that’s worth checking out.

    Italy

    Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) Italy.

Finally~ we’ve got Italy in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), one of the major Overhaul maps with loads of changes. It’s also in the popular fan demand because of it’s breathtaking visuals in matchmaking modes. Italy is magnificently impressive and everyone should definitely play in it at least once.

Final Thoughts On Counter-Strike 2 (CS2)Maps and Their Changes

Alrighty, now we’re finally done with the list of Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) maps and what changes they have. We can finally sleep for the whole weekend now! Hah! Kidding, we’re only getting started, but please stick around, for we’ve got lots more CS2 in the coming days. For now, though, we’re gonna let all the info dump simmer within your mind. If you’ve got any questions, feel free to leave’em in the comments below, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

In the meantime, let’s all take a moment and reflect on the legacy and memory of CS: GO with favorite anime stickers. Think you’ve got some we’re missing, mention them in the comments as well, we love gushing about them. Alright, that’s gonna do it for now, we’re gonna head out now, so take care y’all, happy gaming!
